The 911 is to Porsche like the Golf is to VW and the S class to Mercedes and 3 series to BMW, it's the car that really represents the brand at its best and it's core spirit. I don't think there will be another car from Porsche that will more worthwhile of that badge than the 911.

Porsche is undeniably currently enduring one of the most unsettling, critical eras in it's history. However, I personally have little if any doubt regarding the sustainability of the brand. And most certainly no doubt regarding the sustainability of the 911. Whether this be under the umbrella of VAG or not.

The comparision of total new car registrations of the Porsche Taycan, M-B W/V223 S-Class and BMW G70 7er since their respective "open to orders"market initiations until March 2026 in the EU+Norway+U.K. reveal some interesting conclusions.

China, Cariad (especially pertaining to the Macan EV rather than the Taycan) and somewhat later the U.S. threw the biggest spanners into Porsche AG's gearworks. Of course, legislators did not help much either.

There's a TV channel in Portugal that is giving away one Porsche Macan EV later in the month. Before it was Mercedes A-Class, BMW 1 and 2-series, Changan Deepal and so on...
The EV narrative screwed up Europe big time.

I am very worried about Porsche situation, they are in a terrible crisis at the moment. I do believe their chances of making a recovery of sales in China is very very slim. The Macan EV looks great but when compared to a Xiaomi YU7 or Zeekr 7x it is way overpriced and the interior is looking a bit cheap skate for the price. The Cayenne EV is a mixed bag, although the coupe does look fantastic. Then the Macan ICE model will be dropped in the next 2 months and a new model will only come in 2028.

I would also add that the Macan EV and cayenne EV will look the same for the next 7 years. In China, new and improved EVs are launching so frequently that I can't keep up!

Styling longevity is probably the least of their concerns. The iX3 already outperforms the Macan EV in range and efficiency, and the next generation X5 will do the same.
