Hot! Porsche: What's Next

Boh... So Porsche, a company known for their sports cars, will have another huge SUV on its line up. 3 SUVs, 2 sedans and... 1 sports car? Cause it is not clear what's happening with the 718 future.

Not sure how this will affect the public's perception about the brand...

Let's face it - big, platform-sharing SUVs make revenues and profits, as abhorrent as a 7 seater Porsche bus would be to me.
718s are niche sales - for the not-so-rich who can't afford a 911 but are looking at an entry point to the Porsche sports car experience.

The first generation Porsche Cayenne, presented in 2002, was a very significant, if not THE most significant, element that contributed to transforming Porsche AG into a most formidable "Profit Powerhouse".

However, I cannot help but suspect that Porsche AG has somehow lost focus and, in fact, may not be able to adhere to some sort of sustainable "Big Picture" planning scenario. Too much smacks of "panic" and hair trigger decision making. Pretty much everything so far pertaining to the "K1" project is a reflection of this IMHO.

Ferrari is launching a sort of electric four-door sedan/crossover next month with an Apple-inspired design! Relatively a large luxury SUV, and Porsche's ICE engine after 20 years of making SUVs, doesn't sound so far-fetched.

718s are niche sales - for the not-so-rich who can't afford a 911 but are looking at an entry point to the Porsche sports car experience.

I would prefer a more affordable smaller 718 that doesn't look as a women's car over the 911. Both are toys for weekend and I find a base Carrera overpriced and I won't pay 250k for a GT3 either.

I think Porsche is missing something when designing luxury interiors.
Their cars are expensive but don't offer much in terms of luxury feel like Range Rover. Of course they drive the best and that's why people are buying but a Cayenne feels a less premium inside than a RRS.

So if they decide to launch a very expensive big SUV it should be really nice inside like a full size RR.

I actually like it (for the gargantuan bus that it is). An example of characteristic homogeneity seen in the Porsche SUV/SAC range of vehicles. And, IMHO, far better resolved in terms of exterior design than any of the current M-B offerings in that particular segment.

There is currently much that indicates that Porsche will pull the "REEV Card" regarding future models.

I own a Cayenne and have driven the GLE a few times, but I don’t see it as being significantly better looking than the GLE even though the Cayenne is about 20k more expensive.

Where the Cayenne truly stands out, compared to other SUVs, is in how it drives. Its biggest advantage is the handling, it feels far more composed and athletic, almost like a sport sedan.
