Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

The Cayenne will be six years old next year. A replacement is in short order.

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

If Porsche does this small SUV they will become just like MB/BMW/Audi, a luxury brand that makes everything, with some extraordinary products on the top end and some common ones on the low end.

This is Cayenne Mk2.

I posted this on CSS in August, 2006:

"Isn't the next cayenne supposed to be more crossover than SUV?"

Indeed.

Mind that a near future will bring a completely new vehicle segment: a SAC segment. SAC = Sport Activity Coupe.

SAC is a crossover between a SAV and a coupe sports car. Much lower than current SAVs, but still quite high seating position compared to regular cars / sport coupes. SAC appearence will be very coupeish, very sporty compared to SAVs.

BMW are working on their interpretation of SAC which will come out as X6 in 2008 (also smaller X4 is possible later in the future).

Porsche Cayenne Mk2 will follow the SAC formula, not the SAV one anymore - since the SAC fits better in the Porsche portfolio than regular SAV.

Also the next Infiniti FX will be even more coupeish, and will fit SAC segment perfectly.
Also other brands are moving towards SAC segment rapidly: remember the original VW Concept A showcar? And Hyundai HCD-9 Talus concept?
Also there are rumours MB are working on thier SAC interpretation (MLC or GLC perhaps?). Not to mention Audi have already registered the Q6 name in Germany.

I just want to add some words to support my arguments: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept is a clear eveidence Audi are looking into SAC segment as well. Entering either with direct X6 rival, or perhaps a segment lower (EX & upcoming X4 fighter). Also the new Mk2 FX is indeed more coupeish & sporty - fitting more in SAC than SAV segment.

I agree with what you say Eni, and it seems very likely this is the next cayenne, however the size of the prototype is undoubtedly hinting towards a smaller SUV segment. I think it is safe to say that we should wait for further information

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

Here is some information about the Cayenne posted last year:

"Instead, it appears Porsche’s next-generation Cayenne will be that ‘smaller’ SUV. Due to arrive in late 2009, the new Cayenne is tipped to be based on Audi’s upcoming Q5 architecture – relegating it to the midsize SUV segment. These latest renderings give us an early look at the new SUV, revealing it will be markedly smaller than the current model. It will feature shorter overhangs and will lose any pretensions of being a genuine off-road vehicle."

Motor Authority

"The 2010 Porsche Cayenne will be the first full redesign of the surprisingly popular German sport-utility and, according to our sources, the styling direction will lean toward a sleeker, less utilitarian shape. To get that look, the next-generation Cayenne will feature a more steeply raked windshield, shorter greenhouse and blacked-out B- and C-pillars. The rear end will look more like Infiniti's FX45 sport-ute thanks to gentle curves in place of the current Cayenne's heavy-looking, upright D-pillars."

Edmunds

So it seems like everything is falling into place, this can't be nothing else but the next gen Cayenne.

Further more Wendelin Wiedeking said "there will be no baby Cayenne” last year and that all focus is on the Panamera.

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

Never mind. The puzzle pieces are coming together. This is definitely the new Cayenne. And by the look of the pictures, besides the bumper and the rear, it seems almost ready for release.

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

No question the Cayenne will be a MUCH MUCH more attractive car than it has EVER been due to this reduction in size.:usa7uh:

Porsche Roxster: Baby Cayenne spotted on magazine cover

The latest issue of Autobild Allrad, dedicated to everything four-wheel drive, is featuring an outlook of the upcoming baby Cayenne!

Now when Porsche and VW are in matrimony, Porsche might find themselves under pressure to generate higher profits. This car may well be produced but most likely not as the Cayenne will be shrinking a bit in size next year. Besides that there is more versions of the Panamera planned. Plus, a small roadster just under Boxster would be more fitting for Porsche.

Report: Porsche Rules Out Baby Cayenne

Tracing the rumor-paved path of the ‘baby’ Porsche Cayenne is tricky. The vehicle has been confirmed and denied on multiple occasions so whether or not Porsche is actually building a new SUV smaller than the Cayenne is anyone’s guess.

According to a new report, Porsche has ruled out building a new SUV positioned below the Cayenne because of fears that it would steal sales away from its bigger brother.

The information comes from a company insider who revealed to Autocar that Audi is experiencing this problem with its Q5 and Q7 SUVs and if the same happened to the Cayenne it could be disastrous for Porsche’s bottom line. The Cayenne accounts for almost half of Porsche’s profit and with the new 2011 Cayenne set to be launched in the coming months, sales of the performance SUV are now more crucial than ever.

While we’re unlikely to see a new Porsche SUV, at least in the foreseeable future, there is a chance that the sports car company may add a fifth model line in the form of a new entry-level roadster. If it does come, the new roadster would slot in below the Boxster and share a platform with similar models from Volkswagen and Audi.

If that sounds a lot like the Porsche 914 to you, that's because it is, in a way. It has also been seen as a revival of the 356, though it would be in spirit only. But whatever it is, it's at least under serious consideration at Porsche.

Porsche Says 'no' to Smaller Cayenne

Reports of a sub-Cayenne ‘Roxster’ model have been circling the internet rumor mill for some time now, but Porsche says it has no plans to launch a baby SUV model. Porsche canned the Roxster project in order to put a greater focus on the strong-selling Cayenne.

I hope it's true, there's no reason for Porsche to make this car.

I believe there is a huge marketplace for a smaller SUV from Porsche! Such a car can boost sales and will not cause major problems in Cayenne sales.

Thousands of people for different reasons prefer a smaller SUV!
Reasons such as the traffic and the parking problem in big cities, or that a smaller SUV looks more sport, more youthful, or that smaller SUV needs smaller engines therefore they are more environmental-friendly, less costly etc!

I believe there are much more criteria then the financial one, especially when someone buys very expensive cars like Porsche, probably money is the last thing to think about.

BMW with X3 and Audi with Q5 boost their sales because a lot of younger people, women etc bought these cars.

Personally I prefer X3 than X5, and Q5 than Q7 because they offer all the driving pleasure of a 4x4 but they look more "sport" and youthful!
If BMW did not have X3, I would have bought another car from another company and not X5 which is very big for my taste...

It will be interesting to see if Porsche actually decision to downsize on their SUV project, the only reason why I question this is that the Q5 has stolen quite a big of the sales that originally went to the Q7. Now while you may feel that at least this means that buyers aren't going else where for their SUVs it still means that proportionally Audi are making less profit per switch from Q7 to Q5.

Though there is little doubt there is a better place than to use the Q5 platform to base a future Porsche SUV on, given the marked improvement on handling and more importantly feel that the Q5 has over the Q7, one must assume that Porsche could also make the same inroads compared to the Cayenne.

"Roxster" sounds like a name an elementary grade school kid came up with when he drew a picture of his fantasy Porsche.

The most unintelligent car name I have ever heard except for some chinese cars.

I hope it's true, there's no reason for Porsche to make this car.

Totally Agree. I also think that such a car would actually damage Porsche's reputation.

Lets not forget- Porsche is a sports car manufacturer. Not a 'school run car for mothers' manufacturer..

While you're right, I'd only want to correct one thing: Audi doesn't necessarily earn less money by selling a Q5 instead of a Q7.
The most profitable car of the VW line-up is today... the Tiguan. Not the most expensive car they have.

Overall, both the name and the concept of the car are unattractive for me. But wasn't it said that Porsche, now integrated in VAG, is not gonna replace the Cayenne? So hopefully they will concentrate on their core market, the sportscars.
