Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

Can someone please provide me with the marketing definition of "Activity" in SAV and SAC? What activity are they referring to? The "Utility" in SUV is less obtuse by far... we all know that SUVs are a sporting take on the whole utility vehicle theme, where utility implies a workhorse and off tar nature.

Edit: Could someone please point out an "Activity Vehicle" for me? I'm going to and ask some Aussie farmers if they've ever bought an Activity Vehicle before... I know that "Utes" - as in Utility are big in Oz, as they are here (we call them bakkies) but I haven't ever heard of someone buying an "Act" or make that an "Ate"...

This "Activity", what exactly is the activity in mind? Driving? Er, isn't that the activity performed in any vehicle? Maybe the activity is that you're sitting higher up in the vehicle and that ingress and egress is about as much activity as these vehicles may ever see.

Sports Activity: keep it. I'd prefer to have a vehicle that provides me with versatility and usability. I'll take care of the "Activity" myself. What a stupid term. Surely the marketers could have come up with something less ambigious, no, make that downright meaningless than this.

SAC is basically an oxymoron. A SUV which is designed to be more capable on a track and less capable off track. With a little coupish roof off course to fool people into thinking that it's very fast and handle like a beast. Created by the marketing departments for newly divorced wifes and soccer moms.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this SAC. After all, it isn't quite the full-fledged SUV like the Cayenne so maybe it might retain more Porsche values than one might expect.

Nope, this is a proper SAC IMO:

Since the Roxster (if ever build) will be based on Audi Q5 i have no doubt that it will be great.:D

No 'baby Cayenne' says Porsche CEO

Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking has denied rumors that there’s a new Porsche SUV in development positioned below the Cayenne. Speaking at the general meeting in Stuttgart on Tuesday, Wiedeking said that there will be “no baby Cayenne” and that all focus is centered on the successful launch of the new Panamera four-door sport-coupe for 2009.

Last month, Germany’s Autobild reported that Porsche was building a new SUV based on the platform developed for the new VW Tiguan and Audi Q5, and even proposed that it could be called the ‘Roxster’.

Wiedeking has previously mentioned that he’d like to see further utilization of the new production facilities being set up to accommodate the Panamera, so we may still see a new model from Porsche. This will most likely be a front-engined GT Coupe running a shortened Panamera platform, a true successor for the original Porsche 928.

Re: Porsche building new compact SUV?

Rockin' the Q5 - Audi CUV lends DNA to Porsche's Roxster

The Porsche with the coolest name, Roxster, is being scooped by German website Autobild. While we'd like a Roxster to come with a Matchless and a Tele, the actual vehicle will be a Cayenne Mini-Me, sadly having nothing to do with rock or roll. Well, maybe rocks, depending on its offroad chops.

The basis for the small CUV with the big name (and price) will be the upcoming Audi Q5. There's no word on what the powertrain will be, but there's a wide corporate pool of bits – the Q5 is based on elements of the A4 and A6. Conveniently enough, since the Q5 is reported to borrow liberally from the VW Touareg, the Roxster could complete the circle and share some engine and transmission choices with the bigger utes. We'll keep our fingers crossed for the Cayenne Turbo's insane nuclear-powered motor to wind up under the bonnet, but we think reality will have a V6 of some flavor working away under there.

Thanks for the tip, Christian!

GOD ITS UGLY!

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

I'd say that's not the Roxster, but the next generation Cayenne. I refuse to believe that Porsche will be gushing out another SUV, highly unnecessary when they've got their hands full with the Panamera.

Made two chops. If it is the Roxter, which i hope it will be the same size as the Q5. I based the chop on the Q5:

Porsche too?:eusa_doh:.....:D

Sure, with Audi's resources they have great opportunity to expand their range, but what about market/Porsche fanatics reactions...?

They don't seem to realize the bottom-line isn't the most important thing in life. (Funny to say to a business, eh? :D)

All they'll end up doing is diluting the brand, ruining the meaning of 'Porsche' and paving the way for 'just another car-company.'

Look at what happened to Cadillac, Chrysler, etc.

But then again there's also Pierce-Arrow who refused to change with the market demands and were ruined by it. But that's more of a financial tale :t-hands:

From Worldcarfans.

"The Porsche Roxster (it will most likely not be called that but its all we have for now) will most likely be based on the new Audi Q5 which may also mean that Porsche will add a diesel engine to its range. The similarities between this baby Cayenne and the Q5 are very close with only details (more rounded proportions, side mirrors and less sloping roof line) differentiating between the two cars"

re: Porsche Roxster Compact SUV (Rumors, news & spy pics)

Some sites have published rumors awhile back that the next generation Cayenne would shrink in size. It's possible that they decided to base it on the Q5 this time. In any way, I think a smaller sized SUV fits Porsche better than the large and heavy Cayenne as it is today, as great as it may be.

Exaclty. Besides that a new Cayenne is due in 18-22 months which makes the timing of this mule high standard. I suspect the next generation will be more like the Infinit FX, more of an urban off roader than the X6, Q7 and other heavy SUVs. Suits Porsche's sport image much more.

Panamera = Sporty luxury sedan
Cayenne = Sporty off roader

I really hope this is just the next gen Cayenne and not a "Habanero".
