I have a soft spot for both the R129 and R230 (pre FL).

R129 without a doubt.

I once had a drive in the R129 SL 600 V12 and will never forget that, even though it had 'only' like 350 hp if I recall correctly.
The engine and vault like doors is what I remember most vividly. Just amazing.

And indeed the SL R230 pre FL. Just like you, those two models. Never forget the insanely great SL55 AMG R230.

Definitely the R230 Pre f/l. And I agree with Klier, the SL55 was a dream car.

I wanted to add they made some minor tweaks to the pre f/l SL around 2007, including improved tail lights, and that would be my favorite one.

That 2002 SL55 AMG R230 model is to me one of the most inspirational SL models of all time. It really catapulted Mercedes into the high performance league of cars with almost supercar levels of pace. It had a wonderful 5.5 supercharged V8 with a massive 350kW and enormous 700nm of torque. I will never forget that issue of AMS, where they tested this car on the Nardo track with some extremely high performance cars of the time (911 Turbo, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Lambo Murcialago, Aston Martin V12 Vantage), the SL55 AMG was the fastest to 300km/h (32.5sec against the 34.2sec of the Murcialago) and top speed was at 325km/h second best to the 330km/h of the Lambo. All this while the driver was driving with one hand on the wheel and straightening his hair with the other hand!!!

This is why I like the R230 the most, it has such a beautiful shape.

R129 pre- or post-FL (I chose post-FL on the poll) followed very closely by the R107.

The R129 and R230 all the way,but I don't hate the R231 like some of you guys do,for me the overall shape of the car didn't change much,which is my favorite part of it's predecessor..the 3/4 view of both cars' rear is so sexy and elegant.

The R129 SL 73 AMG was such a monster, but it was such a subtle monster. Never saw one in real life but I remember being flabbergasted when I read the reviews in mags as a kid. The R129 came out when M-B was described as "over-engineered," and was designed by Bruno Sacco. That era of M-B's is the yardstick to which I still compare M-B's that come out since.

I still love those 5-spoke AMG rims.
