Haha, no, already tried to put myself to that test and convince myself into it.

IMO, the 6 GC has made the CLS obsolete. If it weren't for the CLS's drastically cheaper price making it a far better value, I don't think the CLS has one thing on the GC. The GC has MORE headroom than my more upright-SEDAN E-Class, about 3" more than the CLS (a world of difference) WHILE still being sleeker! (BMW engineers proved more capable in this regard than M-B engineers), and much more timeless and more resolved, more refined, more mature yet still more youthful at the same time, design. The CLS for some reason looks "old-man'ish" to me for a "4 Door Coupe". A 6 GC in white with M-Pack is really a beautiful car for a "4 Door Coupe" (which again is an awkward segment still to me to begin with).

Other than the price! Well...IMO, the S Class makes the Civic obsolete. If it weren't for the Civic's drastically cheaper price making it a far better value, I don't think the Civic has one thing on the S Class.

Not that price really matters for this market, but it still means something. The actual consumer aside, a higher price means that BMW can afford to put better materials in it. Yes, there's the name and every thing, but GENERALLY a more expensive product does mean a greater product.

So my question still remains. How many people confused the OLD CLS and the NEW CLS, because of the confused model codes?

I did, and HOH did, so that already makes 2 votes!

When you need to post a tuned up car pic to justify a design, then something must be fundamentally wrong to beging with.

I agree. I only judge cars by real life pics, NOT on showroom floors with lights, not with aggressive only-for-camera-lens angles, etc. The CLS looks downright.. "trying hard but just blah" for a "4 Door Coupe" in so many real life angles, and in the U.S, MBUSA makes them standard with the AMG Package to try extra hard! I dunno, I even think the GC (aside from the hideous lower door frames showing inside which is almost a deal breaker in itself) has a nicer interior. Not as "old world Mercedes style" with the wood and maturity, but it's a sexier environment I think. I like M-B's wood and classic interior look, but in a 4-Door Coupe, it's not a totally perfect fit. I WOULD like more wood in a 6-Series, but all in all, when I sat in a 6 GC, it felt much "sexier" all in all than a CLS

Also it's pretty clear that the CS Concept took all the GC's votes. I'm sure if the CS concept wasn't placed there, the GC might have about all 15 votes that are split between it and the CS currently.

I don't get what you are saying K-A. The CLS is the most beautiful car ever... before that incident/crash that bended the rear doors and 3/4 panels :ROFLMAO:

LOL! So true. M-B's lines really do look like impacts! My friend even said that about my W212 when I got it, from the rear-side angle, he thought somebody slammed into the door (where the Ponton crease ends into the lower rear door portion). The CLS looks even more severe as the lines are so wayward you see many more "impact spots".

Not necessarily. There are some Audi fans who may have voted for the CS Concept who would pick and A7 over the GC.

Shame the A7 is receiving little love.

I said it before, but when my neighboor's 3er got crashed, it looked a bit like the CLS.

Just like Bangle became a verb for describing some design elements (prottuding butt, flame surfacing), Wagener can become a verb for side crashes....
"Hey, my car just got Wagene'd, luckily I'm fine"

Perhaps. Yeah, the A7 just doesn't "hit the spot". Sometimes it looks interesting, but it just doesn't look sexy enough to be a "4 Door Coupe", IMO. I think most Americans just see it as a low sitting almost-Wagon Hatchback (it does look too much like a Wagon especially for this looks>everything segment). The look caters too much toward utility, I think, yet, inside, the car is still very cramped.

Because it is not... The Porsche Panamera, Audi A7 and Aston Rapid are 5-door fastbacks that don`t belong in the 4-door
coupe catagory. (Thay should have their own thread as to which looks best) 5-door fastbacks naturally don`t have the sex-appeal that 4-door coupes do imo, because the fastback "short-cuts" the design work.

Alfa Romeo Brera, Alfa Romeo 8C, Aston Martin Vantage, Toyota Supra are called and considered coupés, when technically they are fastbacks. So the same goes for these 4 door fastbacks.

So today I saw a few CLS's driving around. It's hard to explain why, maybe it's the broken apart lines ruining what should be a sleek 1-volume design, maybe it's that droopy rear end with that chrome bar that looks like it was bought at a home depot and cut to fit the deck lid (without elegantly being contoured toward the edges), but for a "4 Door Coupe", it just look "matronly" to me.... like an old lady in a slutty 2-piece.... just odd.

Coming to a stoplight, I then saw what was I think my first 6 Gran Coupe on the roads, a dark silver-gray with M-Pack..... HOLY CRAP stunning. This profile is perhaps one of the most perfect and majestic to ever come from a 4-Door. I love it. I hated it at first, but I'm starting to truly fall for it. Maybe even nicer than the 6 Coupe (though I'd probably rather have the Coupe as it's a tiny bit smaller and I crave a 2-Door now). I can't even look at a 5-Series the same way now.... the 6 GC just really took elegant-sleekness of a 4-door to new levels, it makes the 5, though still very nice in its own right, look like an "old version" of the midsize BMW 4-Door idiom, IMO.

Sorry HOH, I think my M-B fanboy card has already been long revoked. Look at me drooling over a BMW now! o_O My friend today told me he wanted to slap me for saying that. :D

Whatever the car is, sedan or "4 door coupé", (you remember our discussion :D), we agree that the 6er GC is stunning. :)

Yes yes, I'm a believer now. Seeing one cross the intersection in front of me, especially after seeing like 5 CLS's during that drive.... the best way I can describe the rolling profile view is "majestic". It's my favorite 4 Door (SEDAN, as they all are :D) on the market.

Same for me until the new Maserati QP. Still have hopes.
