Poll: Which generation of BMW is best??

Just thought that if you wanted to refer to a particular "generation" of BMW's, in terms of style engineering or whatever this system might be useful instead of giving two or three of the cars E or F codes e.g. The E5 generation is commonly regarded as the most controversial generation of BMW's.
This is what I propose:

E1/1st Generation:
E3 New Six
E9

E2/2nd Generation:
E12 5 Series
E21 3 Series
E23 7 Series
E24 6 Series

E3/3rd Generation:
E26 M1
E30 3 Series
E31 8 Series
E32 7 Series
E34 5 Series

E4/4th Generation:
E36 Series/Z3
E38 7 Series
E39 5 Series
E46 3 Series
E53 X5

E5/5th Generation:

E70/71

I'm a bit confused with the 3rd and 4th generation. I'd put the E36 3er and the E34 5er (where is it?) along with the E32 7er in the same generation, and then a different one with the E46 3er, the E39 5er and the E38 7er.

And then I would vote for the latter

The E38 7er, E39 5er and E46 3er was the absolute best generation of BMWs. They were the very kings of each respective segment and rocked competition in the looks department. Current generation comes close, but still behind.

My favorite gen would be E4 although I love E3 too!!

Nobody could touch the E4 generation. BMW's were perfection for that time. E39, E46 Coupe, E38, no plethora of SUV's to muck things up, no ugly 1-Series. Just the epitome of BMW, right in between its classic traits and what modernizations followed afterwards.

E3 was also great and a big forward period for the coolness-factor push of BMW.

I wasnt sure where to put the E28, it was more of a comprehensive update of the E12 like the MK 5/ MK 6 Golf. But IMO BMW has yet to surpass the sheer brilliance of the "E4" generation.

Ahh, the E34. I had so many of those within my circle of friends/family in Grade School/High School years. I learned to drive in one (my Mom's), failed two driving tests in the same one, then finally passed my 3rd with flying colors in the same one. Black with white interior. I could still hear the I6 from those motors, so distinct, so engraved within my brain.

The first time I ever drove a Manual was in my brothers dark green E34 525i. That car played a major role in my upbringing indeed.

Honestly, I wouldnt think I. My dad had an E34 - it was gorgeous.
