Just thought that if you wanted to refer to a particular "generation" of BMW's, in terms of style engineering or whatever this system might be useful instead of giving two or three of the cars E or F codes e.g. The E5 generation is commonly regarded as the most controversial generation of BMW's.
This is what I propose:
E1/1st Generation:
E3 New Six
E9
E2/2nd Generation:
E12 5 Series
E21 3 Series
E23 7 Series
E24 6 Series
E3/3rd Generation:
E26 M1
E30 3 Series
E31 8 Series
E32 7 Series
E34 5 Series
E4/4th Generation:
E36 Series/Z3
E38 7 Series
E39 5 Series
E46 3 Series
E53 X5
E5/5th Generation:
E6X
E70/71
E8X
E9X
F1/6th Generation:
F0X
F1X
F2X
F3X
