Polestar 5 Polestar 5 Official Presentation Appears Imminent

The Polestar 5 is a high-performance full-size sedan battery electric vehicle (BEV) produced by Polestar, an affiliate of Geely Holding and Volvo Cars.
Still nobody’s going to buy it.

Although the price in Switzerland ist non that crazy.

The economy having been what it's been for the past 3 years, folks in Germany aren't buying much of anything nowadays. Consumer confidence has been hovering around ZERO for quite some while.

So good looking.

Just configured a Launch Edition Performance 18m nok, do they have rocks in their heads, for 1.8m I'm buying a Porsche Taycan 4s and saving 300k.

You keep saying that about every EV (haven't heard you about the GLC EV yet somehow), but simple statistics tell you how wrong this is. EV is on the rise, non stop.

Can you rephrase that?

Embracing transformation is often difficult and it is easy to be skeptical in the face of what may evolve into epic change.

I agree with your statement wholeheartedly. Peel away the layers of polarizing politicization, and the not too distant future will embrace electric mobility in a manner anchored in simple common sense. Not everywhere on the globe, but in economically, infrastructurally developed nations for certain.

whoops missed a point 1.8m, for 18m I'm buying a big house and a boat.

This car will cost you a lot of money. Polestar is in crisis. It's crazy that they're making a car in this segment.

Maybe the polestar 1 gave them confidence to attempt another "super car". If there is no interest in the western world, they can sell the car or a rebranded version of it in China.

It's crazy that they're making a car in this segment.

It is a halo project for all involved in the English Midlands, Göteborg and Hangzhou. Unit sales are of subordinate interest if any at all. The Polestar 5 is a "look what we are capable of achieving" exercise in design, body structure manufacturing and chassis development. It is a car that showcases the virtues of timeless, monolithic design. It is a car of which examples could very well end up being stationary exhibits in museums of modern art. It, like so many other examples of fine automotive designcraft that were not necessarily commercially successful, should be appreciated for what it is. Appreciated in the way that connaisseurs of automotive desgn appreciate vintage Cords, Duesenbergs, Studebaker Avantis, Facel Vegas and Lagonda Rapides. And hey, who knows ? Maybe the Polestar 5 will find more takers than anyone could have ever possibly expected.

I didn’t say it about the iX3 and the GLC EV, because both will sell in Europe.

The BMW iX3 is for a BMW well priced, and the specs are impressive.

All they need to do, is to offer more colors in the interior.

In China both are DOA.

I guess the ID Polo will sell as well.

Well we'll see I guess, Polestar is a popular brand over here.
In Switzerland it’s dead, people are buying Volvos instead.

EC40/EX40 and EX30 are very popular among former Polestar 2 drivers.

The interior is very similar, but you’ve a dealership in every bigger village.

No company makes a car thinking or accepting that it won't sell, especially one that is in serious financial trouble like Polestar.

A deeper look into automotive history will indicate otherwise on occasion. Especially regarding highly prestigious halo projects developed by sub-brands of financially sound parent corporations. Polestar 5 to Geely is not unlike Lincoln Continental Mk. II to FoMoCo of the mid-1950s in that particular context. And the sheer charismatic radiance of the Polestar 5's design could ensure some longivity as a model rather than a brand directly under the wing of Geely, Zeekr or Volvo.

But again, I'm looking AT THE VEHICLE for what it is. Highest designcraft IMHO. My motivation is personal as well as primarily emotional rather than rational in the case of vehicles such as these. Among the many automobiles that I have loved throughout the many years, a number of them have been commercial flops. So be it. I still love those cars though.

I don't think so at all, their specs make them strong in the competition (especially the iX3), which I think will also fare much better due to its modern concept car style in an environment where they've embraced modernity.
For that same reason, I'm not so sure how the GLC EV will fare.

I reckon the GLC EV will do ok in China as the interior with its massive screen is its party trick for the Chinese tech hungry nation. The GLC ICE is selling well in China its Mercedes 2nd most popular model having sold over 168K units in 2024 and the EV version looks even better with higher tech so it should sell well.
