...and also, recent spottings of only very slightly veiled pre-production prototypes in Sweden indicate an official presentation soon.

I hope that Polestar can overcome the serious financial difficulties that it has been experiencing and find success. The Polestar 5 promises to be a visually absolutely stunning automobile.

This will be a big sedan, same segment as BMW i7?

It will be a large BEV 4 door GT. Somewhat longer than the VAG J1 cars, some just under 5100mm according to most current reports. It will be a low (at most 1450mm) and wide (approx. 1960+mm) vehicle as well. In essence, far closer in dimensions to the current Porsche Panamera and upcoming AMG electric 4 door GT than to the far larger G70 BMW 7er.

Interesting driving footage in an urban environment:

Looks like a handsome car, but maybe too much Tesla S side profil…? And that is part of the problem with the Polestars, IMO they haven’t found their own style, they look too generic. When you see a Volvo, the sister company, there is no doubt what car you see. When I see a Polestar I often think it’s one of the new chinese EV cars…

It is interesting to note that no other than Michael Mauer, Porsche AG/VAG corporate design chief, is a fan of Polestar designs. He explicitly mentioned it in a recent Auto Motor und Sport/MOOVE podcast. For what it is worth.

I like the new Polestar models, they all are stylish with great-looking interiors. The unusual light colour wood trims, wool fabric seats are nice Nordic luxury touches.

Yes, I also like the interior. I have sat inside both model 3 and 4, and both have an interior that is a very nice place to be. The exterior is not ugly, they are handsome cars with a sporty design, but they lack caracter IMO. Polestar started from scratch a few years ago and had the possibility to create their own design language. IMO they failed here, they just look to generic.

This Polestar 5 is a homerun for Volvo in the design, it looks so much nicer than the equivalent German models from Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

This side profile is brilliant.

I think that they will likely increase their sales substantially in 2025 compared to the 44851 cars sold in 2024.

I guess this is on the same platform as the new EV Volvo S90 that will be launched in short time?

While there may be a certain degree of commonality regarding some electronic componentry, the Polestar 5 and Volvo ES90 will be very different automobiles-despite the sibling bond. Alone the structure and manufacturing of the respective car bodies (extensive use of adhesives in the case of the Polestar 5) present two very different animals. Unit volumes for the ES90 will surely be significantly higher.
