Phoenix Rising? (Possibly?)

Did we jump a few years into the future in a space of a week?
Is the recession over now?

At the pace releases are done by BMW these days, we will not see the finished product untill the next recession :D

These things should never be behind the curve, like the X5"M" and the X6"M" were.

Ok I have had enough with this teasing and marketing strategies ..

I would be ashamed working for BMW now, they are claiming they are no.1 luxury car manufacturer and bla bla ... and all premium and non premium car manufacturers had their shot at developing something extreme or exotic.

Ford: the Ford GT
Audi: R8
Mercedes: SLR - SLS - Blackseries versions ...
Alfaromeo: C8
Lexus: LF-A
and the list goes on and on ..

what BMW had focused on ? Emissions, ok great but where is the gift for true car enthusiasts ? X5/X6M ? 760 ? I am sorry but even the latest released cars, seem less focused than the older ones, the new 7 is softer than the older one (or at least it feels so). Z4 ? yeah very sporty for a 50+ year old.

I am sorry but I am just uncomfortable with the latest strategy of BMW, they seem to have a layer of management that don't have balls to pull anything "non mainstream" or niche .. only safe decisions.
heck even the X6 was nothing but an X5 with chopped roof. very lazy, too many shared parts ..

BMW: What is next ? to become the next toyota ?

Unfortunately I for one, started to seek excitement somewhere else, cause I know that BMW are not brave enough to pull the trigger for an exciting model ..

Excellent post, I share your frustration but have not left them.........yet!!!

That's a bit harsh mate. If anything, BMW is going the "unique" route which I fear is VERY lacking nowadays. I'm not down with BMW's X6/X5M strategy, but this is actually something I agree with. This will set BMW apart from the rest of the cars and put them ahead by leagues. F__k, I need to be a part of this damn thing. I can't get my Marketing degree soon enough. ;)

Not so long ago, BMW offered the sportiest car in each segment, 3 series / 5 series / 7 series / X series and Z series. Now, looking at each segment individually , I am almost 100% sure, that you will find a better alternative with more fun, sportiness, luxury or the combination of all.

X series: dominated the segment when it came (poor ML and bloated RRs), now the Cayenne, RR are all much better than the X.
7 Series: First the Audi A8/S8 humilated the 7, then the Maserati, Now even the S class has a comparable fun and driver envolvment (almost same grip and less body roll - E-diff, NA engines, Direct steering .. etc). The new Jag ? maybe will continue what Audi started.
5 series: Jag XF might not be a better performer BUT it is hell lot cheaper.
3 series: still the best among rivals but the A4/C class are not far behind
Z: the new Boxster/Cayman, Nissan Z370, TT RS. Some might not be in the same price league but still better alternatives.

My point: BMW should realize at some point that they might be by passed by other brands just because of their ignorance or lack of concentration. the GT series is great and might be profitable from BMW POV, but I for one, would only consider it over one of their own product: i.e 5er GT over 5 estate, X6 over X5. and so on ...

BMW isn't exactly a dot-com start up. Does "the ultimate driving machine" ring a bell?

Who knows though, given your enthusiasm and appreciation for SCOTT et. al., maybe you will be part of BMW's bold new marketing strategies.

Seriously though, if you truly are pursuing a Marketing degree. Good luck and be persistant and patient regarding your goals.:t-cheers:

Yeah, I know about it being the ultimate driving machine. That's why I'm saying they are going the Unique route. There is no point in keep calling yourself Ultimate if can't be unique and that is what they are going after.

I'm enthusiastic about many things, and not just on BMW's part. I'm looking forward to the new SLK, CLS, 6er, etc. But I'm in love with the CS from almost the moment I set eyes on it. I don't like 4 door car more than the S-class but that's because the CS doesn't really exist. As for being a part of BMW's marketing thing. I won't lie, I'd love to. I'm a car guy through and through, and would be perfect for automotive marketing, but I doubt that's good enough to get me there.

Thanks. Yes, I'm really pursuing a degree in Marketing. But that's not all. I'm actually a double major with concentration in International Business and Marketing and trying to get a minor in MIS. Marketing because I'm creative, I used to be a graphic design major and then a Automotive Design major, but I came back to Business because I'm more business minded thanks to my family. International business because I speak 3 languages besides English fluently and speak a bit of spanish and understand a bit of Japanese. MIS, because I've been working on computers and crap since I was 8yo. :t-cheers:

CS is just as intresting as my butt. Forget about the car, people want BMW to build sporty cars and BMW knows what we are talking about.
Scott go tell them, BMW's future is just a big yawn right now.

I think BMW is bound to release (in some way) some information about the future really soon.

The last sporty car that BMW released was the M3 in 2007. Not that long ago but as there are no solid plans for something more, one must wonder.

135i??

Plus the Performance line has been introduced, which is extremely sporty.
And there are very solid plans for an M model of the next gen 1er, of which I am sure it will come.

The two CSL's have both been cancelled. The Z4 M is far from certain.

Anyway, straight from the horses mouth 'sporty' is not BMW's priority. Taken from the announcement of BMW quiting F1:

BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula 1 | BMW to quit F1 at end of season

They will instead devote resources to the 'development of new drive technologies and projects in the field of sustainability'.
"Of course, this was a difficult decision for us, but it's a resolute step in view of our company's strategic realignment," said Dr Norbert Reithofer, chairman of the Board of Management of BMW.
"Premium will be increasingly defined in terms of sustainability and environmental compatibility. This is an area in which we want to remain in the lead".

It's what I would like to see, not what I know is coming.

And there is an F1 section where you can preach BMW's demise.....

One last thing:

We have a saying in Arabic, when there is smoke, there is fire. I believer, that BMW have had a high staff turnover, especially engineering department. Bangle was just announced since he is highly exposed to the press. I believe they are more resigntions that resulted in this.
