Vs Ohh snap Audi vs BMW: 1-0

I think we should view this result positively. Clearly the Mercedes C63 AMG and Audi RS4 have stepped up their game in terms of driving dynamics so now BMW has to work harder in becoming the "class leader" again. I'm not saying that Audi or Mercedes are the new class leaders, but the positive reviews of both cars in terms of dynamics have got to mean something.. Competition is good, no? We win in the end. :D

I'd be happy with anyone of these fine sports sedans.

^yep.. but the thing that bothers me is

MORE FUN TO DRIVE on a daily basis..

i can not understand that..

I presume its because the audi is 4wd. On public conditions all you need to do is point the car and plant the accelerator. With the M3 you will have to be gentle gentle and weather the throttle as not to end up facing the over way round. For a quick blast of speed when you want it on normal driving conditions I presume that makes the RS4 a better choice.

^yes im sure the speed is more accesable on normal roads in a RS4..
but thats just the point that makes it to controlled and not as fun to drive as bimmers.. imo
but now this dude says the RS4 is more FUN to drive than the M3..
i just cant belive that..

Under normal everyday use, yes, i would believe so to - easier to live with. The M3 seems more edgy and therefore maybe a bit harder to access. This comparo is'nt quite straight in that sense that the M3 seems to be more compared to the E46, between the lines, than straight against the RS4.

Another thing is expectations, some have believed that the new M3 would be something in the area of the old CSL (all awhile there was no exprectations what so ever on the RS4, hopes maybe but no expectations) but that is rubbish. It was so obviuos that the M3 was to be aimed at a larger crowd and that means compromises. The only thing that seems to have gone wrong this time is that electric power steering.

the steering is not a small issue in a car like this

I think what the article is trying to say that while the M3 is the performance-focused track car, the RS4 manages to create a better balance between daily driveability and sportiness.

I agree entirely with the verdict about the M3's struggle to feel special. It feels like it has been engineered hastily - from its engine covers, to its rather bland interior, to its not-so-obvious rear spoiler... It feels more like a sports car of afterthoughts than anything else. The RS4 is different. You can feel and see the attention put to the car. Ok, so maybe the car came very, very late. But for good reason.

:D .... I was in sweden today and I saw a test between BMW 335 coupe and the Audi A5.. ;) in the swedish version of AMS.

They called the Audi a proper GT, The real drivers-car and their first choice with very good driving dynamics. The poor BMW they did call a ordinary 3-series, only shrimped with 2 doors instead of 4. They did not fancey the car at all...

I'm sorry to say this to all BMW owners and fans out there
It's no "Oooh Snap"

It's the future :t-cheers:
Audi - Car Company Von Vorsprung

On the otherside... Both Audi & BMW are great cars and you decide which one you want with you're heart not money nor driving dynamics.

Both car brands sell lots of cars :usa7uh: support the one you like.
 Audi for me

it was a AWD 330d diesel and not a 335i against A5 3.0 diesel. the bimmer had automatic and the a5 was tested with manual.

and it was posted here
http://www.germancarforum.com/inter...-3-0tdi-vs-bmw-330xd-coupe-new-king-town.html

PS same carmag ranked Lexus IS250 vs 325Xd and they said the lexus was more fun to drive, go figure...

Ok... :usa7uh: Sorry about the wrong info. I wasn't actuallly reading the whole article just the last comments ;) so I just guessed it was the 335i :eusa_doh: my mistake.

But it's a reminder anyway I think it all started with the new A6.. and soon the new A4 will be a great compeditor for the new C-class and the BMW.

Audi is getting big in U.S with a lot of help from the R8 :usa7uh:

Next A4 will be great! My old folks will get one of those in quattro and diesel, no questions asked.

Enjoy your stay in Sweden? Strömstad maybe?

not to be rude agains the audi boys.. but seriously why are you talking about the RS5 when you know very well that it takes audi until the very end of a modells life to release the RS version
and the A5 is fresh outta the bakery..
who knows where the competition will be by then..
its to far off imo to discuss..

Because us audi boys know that is no longer the case. RS model will be with us in a year or two. Audi have changed their strategy which is proven by the fact that the S5 was launched at the same time as the normal A5, and for the fact that there are RS5 mules out and about already.;)

Because maybe driving the M3 with pace on public roads with all that power plus RWD is maybe a bit reckless. Especially with british weather ie it being wet and damp all the time and very slippery. So that would then mean you would not be able to use the M3's power on the roads as often meaning its not as fun.

^hmm could be..but at the same time..no.. cause the intimidating feeling of 420hp and rwd together with a sharp car..should be more fun
and thats what i gather the M3 is trying to be..right?

PS
And about the RS5.. i got that explained by yannis.. and i applaude audi for changing strategy:D

the article clearly says the M3 is more thrilling ride than the Rs4 on a track or on openroads. Sounds like the writer telling us double messages.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Quotes from the article/comparison:

"The BMW is unquestionably the better option on the track or on an empty road"

"BMW is the sharper drivers car."

[the BMW] is more accomplished if you are considering track use"

[in the most aggressive mode the M3] rewards in a way the RS4 simply can't
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds to me that the M3 is a better drivers cars and more involving to drive than the Rs4.
Im with Poverty and Dr Dunkel and their explanations.

^yep very wierd review with mixed messages..
