New Beetle [Official] Volkswagen Beetle

I look forward to hearing about how "original" the 991 looks when it appears this fall in Frankfurt. :D

The new Beetle looks awesome. Though I still see plenty chicks driving this car I also see some confident and secure heterosexual males like myself considering this new Beetle as well:cool: And to be truthful I don't think it's even that heavily skewed design wise toward either sex. Definitely more gender neutral than the previous generation.

As far as originality goes; seriously, what did you expect? At the very least it actually looks like the original Beetle and not something else that's not. It's an iconic car with more heritage than the majority of cars on the market today. Without it you and I surely wouldn't look at the VW brand they way we do. :t-cheers:

Give the wheelbase a slight stretch, add 2 more doors, and call it the Panamera Jr.

and slap a Porsche crest on it!!! that would be pretty sick. on a more realistic note I'd love to see someone (no doubt this will be a future Worthersee show attendee) slap some Porsche Turbo II wheels on a new Beetle. :usa7uh:

Lol, nice of VAG to share the tail light design with Galibre. VW Bug-atti anyone?

Ahh just what a needed. A supplementary car to my imaginary 997 Turbo S with optional decals. Thank you VW for answering my prayers.:D

Kidding aside the car looks marvelous. I did not expect it to be this visually appealing. I'm very impressed by the rear-end design, it looks familiar but yet progressive and masculine. The car is almost as well polished as a 911. Big applause to VW for that, they've made a decent poor-mans-911.

Although I give the exterior a thumbs up I'm not entire convinced until I see something special in the spec shit. If this car isn't more than just a Golf with a bulbous body then I predict sales pattern to walk into the foot steps of the PT Cruiser. VW are clearly tapping into the Porsche appeal here and thus the car better have the driving characteristics of a Porsche. My expectations are actually rather high now. Just check out the font of the Turbo lettering. It's disgusting to wore the Porsche brand like this. If the car isn't as fast as it looks then I'll join Klier's "I hate VAG" appeal. :eusa_naug

NEW GENERATION BEETLE REVEALED AT SHANGHAI SHOW

New generation of Volkswagen Beetle unveiled in Shanghai, New York and Berlin

All-new vehicle draws design cues from original Beetle launched 73 years ago

Efficient engines and innovative features combine with heritage to make a 'modern classic'

On sale in North America in autumn 2011, then mainland Europe; UK early in 2012

Volkswagen has unveiled the latest generation Beetle in Shanghai on the eve of the city's motor show, marking a new era in this iconic car's history. The latest generation moves away from design of the New Beetle of 1998 and instead draws on cues from the original and Beetle Ragster concept shown in Detroit in 2005. As such it's longer, wider and lower, giving a more masculine and dynamic appearance.

The Beetle now measures 4,278 mm in length (+152 mm), 1,808 mm in width (+84 mm) and 1,486 in height (-12 mm). The track width front and rear, as well as the wheelbase at 2,537 mm, are also increased. Overseen by Walter de Silva (Volkswagen Group) and Klaus Bischoff (Volkswagen Brand), with Marc Lichte the team leader for exterior design, the car's new proportions mean the roof extends back further, the windscreen is shifted back and the rear section is now more akin to that of the original Beetle. The boot capacity is a practical 310 litres, up from 209 litres in the 1998 model. The Beetle has four seats, with a split-fold rear seat for added versatility.

Inside the cabin, the Beetle's designers created a modern, practical and distinctive appearance with easy to identify and ergonomic controls. Certain features, such as the glovebox and colour accent panels hark back to the original.
Three trim levels will be available – Beetle, Design and Sport – and each will be endowed with its own individual character and features. A wide range of innovative optional equipment will also be available, ranging from Keyless Access through satellite navigation systems and a panoramic sunroof to bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights – all of which are available for the first time on a Beetle.

In the UK, a choice of four engines will be offered: three petrol – a 1.2-litre TSI 105 PS, a 1.4-litre TSI 160 PS and a 2.0-litre TSI 200 PS; and one diesel – a 1.6-litre 105 PS with BlueMotion Technology. Thanks to the addition of Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems the Beetle 1.6-litre 105 PS is estimated to have a combined fuel consumption of 65.7 mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 112 g/km.

As well as being economical and environmentally sound, the Beetle is also built to be one of the safest cars on the road thanks not only to features such as standard ESP and six airbags but also a laser-welded and galvanised body structure which has one of the highest torsional rigidity values in the segment at 26,000 Nm/?. In addition the range-topping engine, the 2.0-litre 200 PS, will feature standard XDS electronic differential lock as fitted to the Golf GTI.
The new car will be available to order in the UK in the summer, with first cars arriving in showrooms early in 2012. More details will be available closer to launch.

When the original was launched in 1938, it was known simply as 'the Volkswagen', quickly acquiring a raft of nicknames from across the world. Whatever the name, its popularity is not in question, with 21.5 million sold in the past 73 years.

Can't believe this is it?! From the front it looks like a mere facelift. The highlighted fenders gives it a prototype look while the rear is, to put it nicely, fugly. The interior is as generic VAG as can be without even a hint of originality that you would expect from such iconic car as the Beetle. At least the previous New Beetle had a sunflower holder... As you can probably tell, I'm severely disappointed. :jpshakehe

I like it a lot. Those few edges suit it very good, and I especially dig the hot-rod-esque flattened roofline.

The interior however, well I have my reservations, far too conventional. The body-colour trim on the major part of the dash could work wonders for it, on lighter/agressive colours. Which clearly are the colouts that suit that little hotness anyway.

Much better than the inconsistent, girlish, horrid-interiored previous gen. This is a very nice car, sure only a rebodied Golf but much fancier.

A CLS is a rebodied E any way, and it doesn't bother anyone. So why does it here? The GVI platform is an excellent one, the car looks nice and different, enough to justify it if the market research has been done right.

This thing really looks like an obese porsche.

What VW did here reminds me a lot of what Apple did with the iPad 2. They basically took the first iPad and changed a few things just enough to call it the new version and then sell it. I really wish VW would get out of this bubbly phase with cars and refine it by making sharper edges and perhaps a little leaner. Then again, I'd be requesting they make something that would look pretty much like a porsche.

The car will sell just like the old one sold, but as an enthusiast I cannot appreciate it. The original beetle is dead and this does not live up to it in anyway, shape, or form.

I think it looks better than the current one, but I do agree with Martin that it looks to have been HEAVILY influenced by the PT-Cruiser.

I really like it. The live pics in white really look good. Looking forward to seeing it in the metal.

Each in his time ...... if you remember when the new Beetle came out in 90's was radical and futuristic, besides being the pioneer in bringing this old icons to the present days, then came out the new MINI whith more success globally.

In this new 2011 model is a different strategy and the shapes and proportions are much closer to the last old's Beetle 70's / 80's, which is quite smart, and follow the steps at this time than it did MINI modernize without leave to resemble the icon represents.

Looks good. In fact, it looks great. So great that it can easily carry a Porsche emblem!! :D

Not as cute and girly as the current one, which I thought was the whole point of this car anyway. Looks much better though.

Looks like VAG is starting to REALLY push the incest between their heard. Lots of Porsche in this car, and I see a lot of Bentley Continental in the rear.

The interior looks terrible, reminds me of what Dodge is putting out.

In fact, the whole car reminds me of something Chrysler would have, or have, Designed. Namely the Crossfire, and PT Cruiser. It has an American Hot-Rod look to it in many ways.

All in all, it's alright.... actually nice for what it is, but I wonder if they're trying to make it take itself too seriously, rather than just stick as an uber-novelty car.

You may find my way of thinking strange but think of it...Most shapes and designs showcased by OEM's as concepts does not make it to production because of "problems created in the wind tunnel" / legislation i.e. pedestrian safety / whatever...

And somehow VAG can get a 'strange' even modern shape like the typical Beetle shape into production whilst designers and OEM's would tell us that this or that shape we all loved as a concept would not pass rules/laws/legislation:t-crazy2::t-hands::eusa_thin
