Supra [Official] Toyota Supra (J29/DB)

The Toyota Supra is a sports car and grand tourer manufactured and developed by the Toyota Motor Corporation beginning in 1978. The name "supra" is a definition from the Latin prefix, meaning "above", "to surpass" or "go beyond". The 5th generation of the Supra is assembled alongside the G29 BMW Z4 in Graz, Austria by Magna Steyr.

Yeah, ok.

Quattroruote has just tested Supra vs Z4 M40i, Supra lapped Vairano in 1:17,44 and Z4 in 1:18,15. Someone have scans or test data of this duel?

Good job!

They destroy the firsts Toyota Supra 2020 that were going to the European market

July 18, 2019 | 13:54 | By Carlos Valdés 15

A truck carrying the sports cars suffered an accident that left three units destroyed.
Bad news for European Toyota brand fans who hoped to receive, for these days, the first units of the new Supra 2020 for the Old Continent market.

I saw the Supra in yellow at Goodwood and it was utterly sensational. You could put it next to an 812 Superfast and Aston Martin Vantage, and it wouldn't look out of place.

The cabin feels more spacious than it looks on the outside. However the side windows are tiny! By tiny, I mean half the height of windows on a normal car, and not far of the window on your microwave.

Nevertheless the design is rich, sculptured without looking fussy or over design eventhough it is - a brilliant accomplishment.

This is the most unique perspective I’ve heard on the new Supra and also shows why Chris Harris is one of the most experienced and respected journos out there.

What he said is valid. Times have changed and engine/component sharing will become even more prevalent. However, I don't understand why Toyota didn't raid the Lexus parts bin for interiors, added CarPlay/Android Auto and called it a day.

^^
Not bad at all for a car that journalists label is one that you can live with.

I hate false air inlets in cars, those that are not perforated. Today I saw the Supra for the first time and to my surprise I saw that the air inlet behind the doors are non-perforated, looks really cheap! I knew that these air inlets was non-funcional but cant they simulate better than these cheap looking plastic bits...?

It's said Toyota did this on purpose for the tuners.

That one is hot, but that Corvette is not much more money. That might be a slight problem.

The Supra is very expensive and will likely feel more so after the new M3/M4 debut with the new engine featured in the X3M. Despite the undeniably sculptured exterior, the drivetrain will need a refresh in 2-3 years to avoid it being uncompetative like the GT86, NSX and LFA were a few years after launching.

Imo, most of the internet complaints and comparisons against the supra in favor of the C8 are missing the point of the new supra. The supra is a tuners car. It is made for those with dreams of playing nfs in real life with massive wide-body kits, slammed cars, and big wings. While the C8 will be for those that want to play like they have a euro-exotic. The supra will be for those that want high tuner power, drag strips, probably nitrous as well, much like the old supra. Whereas the corvette will be like a Porsche for those that cant swing a Porsche, same loyal fanbase, same tracking potential, and same potential for performance variants.

That's all good but this BMW engine becomes quite fragile when tuned

That's all good but this BMW engine becomes quite fragile when tuned

Don't you think reliability when tuned would have been the top uncompromisable criteria for Toyota choosing the B58?

When I researched the engine over the past few months I was impressed by how a plug-and-play box can add 40hp and 100Nm with no negative affect on the engine.

On the forums I have visited, I haven't come across threads about engines blowing up or failing after being tuned to 400-425hp with no modifications to the engine.

There is no denying that Supra owners will test the B58 in ways that BMW didn't imagine anyone would.

Here's a Supra collection last week:

I think a lot of those B58’s will be junked. I can’t see it pushing 600hp on stock internals like the 2JZ.
