Hell, the standard interior for 1er is pretty damn horrid and plasticky, I don't see people crying about that car. Honestly, the main issue that this car is running against is that people think that since it's japanese it should be considerably lower than european cars.

The interior of even the top of the line 1M is damn horrid and plasticky. People do not complain because they are bmw fanboys. The only interior worse than 1M I can think of is the X1 interior.

28K GBP in the UK means a price tag of 40K Euro in some european countries after engine capacity/sports car/etc. taxation!

Now you talking about a car existed since year 2004. Go and check out the new 1er, high quality materials and driver oriented. Premium feel indeed. And yeah a lots of people have been complaining on the previous 1er for a long time. I cant believe you missed it.

The issue is that at 28k stirling its not cheap, and its on paper specs is below par with a low cost interior to boot. 18k and it would make sense.

Nobody is saying that it is cheap. Some of us understand what Toyota are offering in the market which makes it different from other cars, and realize that some people are willing to pay for that difference.
18k wouldn't make sense either. That's the price of a Mazda MX-5 1.8 which also has a low cost interior and yet only 126 PS and 167 Nm vs ~200/200 for the Toyota. A BMW E82 125i M Sport costs about 28k, offers more power and torque, but it is also much heavier. I have yet to see reviews for that car with the same praise as for the Toyota/Subaru. With 215mm front tires and 245 rears, that's a recipe for understeer that even the 135i couldn't cure even with much more power; only the 1M seems to have struck the kind of balance that reviews for the Toyota suggest. The 1er also shares major components with the 3-Series and their combined annual sales are likely in the ~600-700k range; naturally, there is a pricing advantage with that. And so I reiterate: What sales targets have you seen for the Toyota/Subaru?

The supra was a halo car even if it didnt sell well. Its still highly desirable to this day.

You talk as if the two are separate issues and as if the Supra deserves anymore praise than the GT86. The fact is that it is desirable to this day largely because so few were made. The simple fact is the Supra wasn't cheap either, yet why don't you acknowledge that fact just as you keep hammering on about the GT86? Check the Autocar article posted by Soup:
"Enthusiasts are increasingly turning to smaller, lighter cars as financial strains and restrictive public road conditions make heavyweight sports cars less justifiable, and the GT proves that there's fun to be had from less power."

In fact, at only 123 hp, the old Corolla GT coupe made only 37% of the power of the Supra Turbo. Yet it has actually increased in price while the Supra is less than half the cost of what it was when new. If the Supra is desirable today, then so is the old Corolla, despite a massive on-paper deficit. So how do you account for a lowly Corolla with a 0-60 time of 8.3 second commanding about as much money as a car with 180% more power and 5-second 0-60's? You are quite certain that all performance enthusiasts are only desiring on-paper stats? Tell me why Tommy Banh's 1900-hp, 11.5k mile Supra could only fetch $52k on eBay (against an $80k reserve); this car was tested to 247 mph in 1 standing mile when it had "only" 1500 hp...

Or perhaps it is the Audi fanboys who are jealous that BMW makes up for this in the driving dynamics.
Car & Driver have ranked Audis above BMWs multiple times and, yes, they did say the 1M's interior was (only a little) low rent. A Fit & Finish rating of 8 vs 9 for the TT RS is hardly worth playing the "fanboy" card. Anyways, a little bit of a low-rent interior in cars like the E30, E36, Miata, or Datsun 240Z didn't fundamentally detract from what were essentially good cars that sporting enthusiasts could enjoy. You make it sound as if the 1M is the like the job that GM did for the $120k ZR1, when it's not like that at all.

Everything about this car is perfect except for the interior and the rear but I can live with that.
The car is amazing! Just the 30.000 euro price is too much for a standard version, maybe for the TRD it will be fine.
I hope 25k/Standard; 30k/TRD and then I'll buy it for sure

The first tuner to come out with a turbo or supercharger kit will definitely deserve a big prize.

We cannot discuss prises yet as they were not yet revealed. I would say 23.000 $ in the US and 27.000 € in EU. However we do not know if 0-100 km/h is in 7 sec or 6 sec. It is a huge difference, but not important for the purpose this car was built.

Sat in one in Tokyo. Very friendly driving position with minimal adjustment required.... Looks fantastic in real life.

I hope you are, eventhough I know the 1M does not have anything much to envy. I would have taken a Z2 if it were available, but it isn't, and is not close to be.

Scion updated their site. Looks like the FR-S will not be getting those ugly Altezzas. Too bad, it still has that Scion badge on it.The Pioneer head unit looks so out of place. Yuck!

Not to mention, a lot of the amenities missing in the Scion such as, climate control etc.

Subaru is said to be the well equipped model that will be priced higher than the Scion.

As soon as I saw that , I was like "What the flipping F____?!?!? Why? Looks like crap!" It's bad enough it's a effing Scion, but this? Come on, Toyota, get with the program!

For the record, still love the car, but they kind of squandered the interior by Scionizing it. Subie it is, then.

Those cheap Yaris plastic dials just don't cut it for me. Subaru version is slated to be the upscale version that will closely resemble the Euro-spec and J-spec BRZ/GT-86 interiors including the dual-climate auto controls. No push button start in the Scion either.
