Don’t call it cost cuttings. Just say that BMW engineers know better.
It is clearly cost cuttings. In the article it says engineers are the only reason it survived on the G20, and that upper management was fighting to kill it. If it was up to the engineers, it would be on this I am sure.

I know, I know. Just being sarcastic there.

That's shocking. My 330e has the upgraded Merino leather, and that includes full leather on top AND bottom of dashboard, and the tops of the doors combined with contrasting stitching, and the upgrade didn't cost as much as what BMW are asking on the 5 Series.
Exactly my reaction, doors on my current model A6 looks much better, upper doors looks same like family X2 and it is shame for 100k EUR demo car at dealer

"That kick in the rear window"
"The straight belt line"
"Agreed with all the comments on the belt-line."

Apparently, BMW doesn't give a damn, and neither do 80% of their cars, much more than 25 years doing it and here, they still don't see it.

It's all relative to how the rising beltline AND rising kink is executed.

The 5er has rising bodylines combined with the rising beltline, which give it the illusion of a raised/taller rear.

which give it the illusion of a raised/taller rear.
Really?
Where do you see that optical illusion in the 5er? The photos say the opposite
The rear is lower and falls in a more "sporty" way thanks to that kink.

So hard to admit cost cuttings.

But to be honest it was rather a gimmick than a real feature anyway.

Shoutout to @liucunyi_starandcar for noticing this, but the i5 Touring prototype in October had the rear glass able to be open separately with this trunk piece.

Most likely a late in development removal they did to save some last minute costs.

Unless, this is how it still opens and there has been some miscommunication?

I think the F10 Touring looks fantastic and the best Touring from the rear.

I saw a new 5 model last night in Bahrain and from the rear I had to do another look as the taillights, initially look like those of the previous gen Hyundai Sonata. They do look good but not distinctly BMW.

I tried to get a look at the front, but from what I can see I don't like the angle of the front lights, makes the front overhang look too long.

We live in an age where things we took for granted have become superfluous today. I don’t think buyers know about this feature unless they are shown it and a majority of the time would be opening the rear hatch fully especially as it can be done remotely. If we take the 5er GT and it’s trick hatch/trunk. No one really used the trunk only the hatch. And not carried over to the G32.

Is it the only full electric Touring on the market today?
If so, it can hit hard.
