Q5 [Official] The new Audi Q5

I hope they improved the trunk space of this crap. A customer of mine has one and he couldn't lay flat one of my guitars (on its hardcase) that fits perfectly on my car. Ridiculous to the point of being pathetic. Why would you buy one of this softroader if isn't for space?

A guitar in a hard case is a very long and bulky object that would struggle to lay flat in many boots.

Even though the boot length may be similar, the overall volume of the boot space makes it more practical than say a 3-series or c-class.

"Style" Many wagons on the market has a bigger boot and more useable loading space than these "SUV".

I agree. I wish station wagons were offered over here, but sadly this is a SUV and crossover loving place.

But it does fit in my french (i.e: hardly the last in interior space) hatchback, which is smaller than a Q5, dear Luw.

Not so sure Mo, I've the strong impression station wagons of the 3er or C class are more practical, not even considering the lower floor (easier to load)

Also went to check the new Koleos as an option to changing my Megane, and the boot look about the same, for a bigger vehicle....

Certainly the wagons are by far the most practical. But these SUVs are a bit more practical than their sedan equivalents and enough for most.

From a styling point of view very few people would pick a station wagon which is why these SUVs have had such a meteroric rise.

The new Q5 is a class act. Pity they ditched the robust 8 speed auto for less rugged DCT transmissions in the 2.0 litre class.

Does anyone know when the MY2018 Q5 be on sale in the U.S ? One saleman at my local Audi dealer said some time in June 2017. I wonder if that's true.

One of my neighbours took delivery of their black Q5 so I popped over to the local dealer in hope of a close-up inspection. Unfortunately they didn't have one on the showroom floor but I spotted one outside.

-The rear and rear 3/4 views are STUNNING! The sculpturing is sophisticated and the '3D' tail lights makes the car look expensive.
-The swooping shoulder line previously seen on R8 Cabrio and A5 splits opinion, but I think is works very well on the Q5.
-While the rear and profile are beautiful, the front is a let down. The nose is too long and it has the boat-look similar to the first generation Cayenne.
-In person it looks smaller than it's, despite having the boot capacity as the GLC and X3.
-I have seen it parked next to a Discovery Sport and it makes the brit look clumsy.

I drove the car today. It's the black one above. A 2.0TDI Sport with 18 inch alloys and Sport Suspension.

Good:
-If you want a German SUV, the new Q5 is absolutely lovely and will impress you. It's very refined and premium throughout. The seats are comfortable and the car is sumptuous like you'd imagine an SUV should be.
-The weighting of the steering and gas pedal is artificially heavy at time and akin to an electric car. Strangely it suits the character of the car and you don't object to it.
-It's comfortable to drive but is less sedating and wallows less than the GLC.
-Diesel engine noise and vibrations are well muted and makes the BMW's 20d sound like a tractor engine. A 2.0 TFSI is also an option and will be a massive deal breaker as there are no petrol options for the X3 and GLC in the UK - Except for the GLC43.
-The interior quality, just like in any recent Audi is benchmark setting. No more need to be said.
-It can be optioned with rear seats that can can recline for more comfort or slide forward for more boot space.

Bad:
-Although the car had sport suspension and seats. There is nothing sporty about the experience. It has good road holding but the steering offer no feedback or engagement. My X3 which isn't even the M-Sport is a lot more engaging and can be driven aggressively without getting out of shape.
-18 inch alloys and sport suspension isn't a great combination. On rough roads the car comfortable but bouncy, and I have read that the sport suspension is uncomfortable on 19 inch alloys on all but smooth roads.
-From my understanding the dashboard and doors are only available with black leather/plastic and aluminium trim. It's a bit boring compared with the interior combinations available on the GLC.

Conclusion:
Although not polarising on the exterior or exhilarating in corners, it's a fantastic SUV that does what it says on the tin and is heard to fault. I can imagine it driving like a dream on air suspension. The GLC and X3 better have petrol options in the UK soon, as diesels are noisy and are getting a bad reputation.

It will be tough for the next X3 and XC60 to beat it.

Does it have the 7 speed transmission just like the A4?
dtd

If I remember correctly yes. However like the drivetrain of the GLC 220d with 9 speed auto better.
Yeah, the interior of the new Q5 is a copy and paste from the A4, just like the GLC's interior is a cut and paste from the C class. I test drove the C, GLC and the A4 in the last 2 weeks, now I wait for the new Q5 to arrive so I can try it out. I incline toward MB more, but if Audi gives me a good deal, I might switch over.

Hi mate. Interested to know why you're leaning towards MB.

Hi Mr Mercedes,
For the interior, I like the design of the C better than the A4 (MY 2017).I think it is elegant and simple. Other than that, in general, I think Audi at some angle, it is more like a dress up of Volkswagen. Don't get me wrong, I have never owned a German car, so I don't want to say things that I don't know much about. But, just by the looks, I still think MB is better looking. However, the MY 2018 Q5 looks real good with the 3D grille, just like the Q7. I'm torn between that Q5 and the GLC. The current Q5 can't beat the GLC, just my opinion.

Thanks mate. Congratulations on your upcoming purchase! None of them are bad cars, all are great, so I'm sure you'll be happy whichever one you end up in.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
