A8/S8 [Official] The new Audi A8

Still can't believe how they did this pos this bad..but it hasn't been the case with the previous generations..So weird!

Yeah it's terrible considering some were really masterpieces in the past. I see some are hurt again, and we have a flurry of new trolls on the site now.

Citing an article that appeared in elektroauto-news.net and based on information disclosed by Georg Kacher, the "Landjet" will be tentatively presented in "production version accurate" concept form under the designation "A9 eTron" at the 2021 IAA event in Munich this fall. It is reported that the car will be a blend of "sedoupe and shooting brake" and feature design elements from the 2014 Prologue concepts as well as the 2017 Aicon concept. Development of the Artemis project is apparently being fast-tracked in order to confront competitors (EQS, i7, revised Tesla S, etc) in a more timely manner.

Yup, this gen is probably the last gen for the A8 as we've known it.

It really makes sense. While Audi keeps making interesting desings with their SUVs (I particularly love the Q3 SB and the Q8), the company is stucked with the sedans. A8, A6 and A4 all look worse than the other german sedans on their segments.

So yep, can't see a new generation of any of them hitting the market. If their EV replacements are not ready when the time comes, I could see Audi giving them extensive FLs to have them in the market for some additional 3 years or so.

A8, A6 and A4

The A6 is the only of the trio that looks enticing. Also the current A7 too, but I still contend it lost a bit of its style mojo compared to its predecessor. I was and still am a big fan of the 1st gen's exterior. The A4 (and A5) just looks like it has been constantly warmed over. The A8...there was potential, "it could have been a contender..."

Disagree to a certain extent, I think the A6 and A8 has been looking better than it's competitors. While A8 has lost it's uniqueness, for me the A6 looks way better than the 5 Series or the E-Class since the C6 generation. Can't say the same about the A4 though.

the face of the current A8 looks fine the way it is ...its the rear end they need to do something about ...looks really dull

New spy shots are showing both, normal and S-Line versions. Since render of the normal version is already made, I decided to make my render of the S-Line / S8 basen on the latest spy shots.

It's a bit hard to tell how the chrome strip at the bottom of the front bumper is going to look... but that's my guess ;)

In trying to be as "objective" as I can be on a topic that is highly "subjective":

Does the D5 A/S 8 exterior really appear "dated" in direct comparison to the W/V223 ?

I don't this it is dated per se. It is just that this A8 has never look good. This car is 3 years old only. Yet that double shoulder line, that front overhang, the huge grille.... They look wrong.

NO! Especially in that side profile, looks 10 times better than S.

I think that the W/V223 is a highly impressive exercise in automotive design, inside and out. And have mentioned it frequently in relevant threads.

However, I consider the D5s' design to be predominantly highly cohesive and, now entering the 4th year of its' model cycle, sustainably fresh. Yes-the grill is a caricature and narrow prestige clearance with its' front overhang less than fortunate. But from the base of the A-Pillars back, I find it athletic, svelte and an example of well-executed design.
Not that it really matters much any longer as it will be gone as of some 3 years time.

It looks dated, not because of the S Class, but because Audi's design is too incremental.
There is 'Porsche 911 incremental', but this looks like even slower evolution. (Maybe because Audi has many other models in it's offering?).

Anyways, current A8 looks all right, but only in pictures. It looks hideous in real life, because of the proportions. Overhangs are ridiculously long, rear end is looks like it's jacked-up. I'm a fan of Audi's aim to use design to communicate it is 'brand of four wheels' (quattro) - but the previous generation has done it in much more elegant way. IMO, of course (:

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
