ABT Sportsline works wonders for the A8s' otherwise questionable aesthetic. 22"ers, lowered ride height and wider track benefit the A8s' looks substantially.

Wow. Not even ABT can spice up the exterior. My biggest criticism of the A8 is the ridiculous size of the grille and logo. On motorways you can spot it from miles. It's like a billboard on wheels. No design, just a BIG BIG grille.

Bigly.

IMHO, the most appealing image of the D5 A8 to date:

It actually looks bloody GOOD !

Obviously, blacking out the grille is becoming a trend with the D5 ... surprisingly harmonious for an afterthought solution. Probably even better than the original barn door grille. Not a good sign imo.

...side proportions that are hard to digest.

From rear-to-base of the windscreen, I like it. It's from the base of the A-pillars forward where things start going very wrong.

Damn you, MLBevo. DAMN YOU !!!

I saw new parked next to old today.
It was my first experience with the new A8, and frankly it’s better than the pics suggest:

I suspect that’s how many will feel when they see this car in the metal it being “bland” is an over exaggeration from this forum.

If only would Audi start making cars on a brand new rear-wheel-drive platform...

Their looks are not bad, but somehow polarizing in many occasions, so a move to proper RWD underpinings would do miracles to the designs.

Why does it have to be a brand new platform? VAG already has a great RWD platform that made miricles with the Continental.

A bit further down the road (MY 2020 and onwards), VAGs' Porsche/Audi (foremostly Porsche) J1/PPE larger car BEV matrix should offer the basis for genuinely exciting exercises in design. Hopefully, the "skateboard" platform will not promote disproportionately long wheelbases/short rear overhangs. Case in point: some, but not all, spyshots of Porsche Taycan production-body test prototypes. Perhaps (hopefully) it´s merely the occasional odd angle of the lens.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
