1 Series [Official] The BMW M135i

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
It's pretty impressive, in Norway you'd be lucky to get 5% discount and a set of rubber mats thrown in.

Further info, BMW GB were offering up to £1500 support (now pulled) which aided the discounts, plus it was also possible to get a further £500 deposit contribution through BMW financial services.

It'll be a little while before these level of discounts will appear on the M235i (unfortunately!)

BMW M140i Hatchback and M240i Coupe/Convertible to launch this summer

According to our sources – and confirming our previous report – BMW will launch two new models this summer – the M140i hatch and M240i Coupe/Convertible. The updated models will follow the steps of the recently unveiled 340i and the upcoming 440i and X4 M40i, and deliver an additional 15 horsepower for a total of 340 hp.

The current M235i is powered by the N55 six-cylinder inline powerplant with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology which generates maximum output of 240 kW/326 hp and accelerates the BMW M235i Coupe from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.0 seconds. The hatch M135i received a refresh earlier last year with a 6 horsepower increase for a total of 326 hp and 450 Nm of torque between 1300-4500 rpm.

The updated engines are matted to a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic with shifting paddles.

BMW will offer the M240i Coupe and Convertible in the U.S., while the M140i hatchback will continue to be sold in Europe.

WORLD PREMIERE: BMW M140i Hatchback with more power

Starting this summer, BMW will replace the top-model of the 1 Series range – the M135i – with an upgraded version. To be sold under the M140i badge, the new model features an upgraded version of the N55 3.0 liter TwinScroll Turbocharged engine. The new unit has an aluminum crankcase and cylinder head developing 250 kW/340 hp, a 10 kW/14 hp increase in maximum output over its predecessor. The new unit lays on peak torque of 500 Newton meters (369 lb-ft) between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm and generates maximum output at 5,500 rpm.

Therefore 1 Series models are 0.3 seconds faster than their predecessors on average. The BMW M140i 3-door and BMW M140i 5-door complete the dash from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds with the standard six-speed manual gearbox or 4.6 seconds with the optional eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. Get them with all-wheel drive and that time drops to 4.4 seconds, which is actually faster than the manual BMW M2 and only 0.1 seconds slower than the DCT version.

Along with these improved performance figures, thanks to the new B58 engines, the M140i now also claim to have better mpg ratings. In the European test cycle, they are claimed to be 7 percent more efficient. The M140i model is supposed to return between 33.1 and 30.1 mpg (7.1 l/100 km – 7.8 l/100 km) depending on the model and transmission.

Standard specification includes M Sport suspension lowered by 10 millimeters, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in exclusive double-spoke design, an M Sport braking system, Variable Sports Steering with Servotronic function, a model-specific M aerodynamic package and exterior mirror caps in Ferric Grey metallic. Playing their part in the sporting interior ambience are the cloth/Alcantara sports seats with blue contrast stitching, the M leather steering wheel and an M driver’s footrest.

Yes big week. The new 2017 updates, the 3er Gran Turismo LCI and the two new BMW Group concepts @ Villa d'Este.

As someone who is replacing their M135i with an M2 in the next few months, this new M140i is getting uncomfortably close to the M2's performance figures. It's all getting very cramped in this segment. M140i/M240i with 340hp/500Nm of torque, compared to the M2 with 370hp/500Nm of torque. The M140i Drive auto is 0.1 seconds quicker from 0-100km/h than the M2 manual for God's sake!

the M2 is not just about the power and torque though.

isn't the 1er a very desirable hatch, bar the tail lights.

Absolutely. No real competition.

Missing a trick though with no proper M hatch.

Was hoping for more than just some minor tweaks but enough to make me want to trade.

Damn you BMW! ;)

It would have been great if BMW launched an M2 version of the 1 series hatch.
