New York, Apr 20, 2011

The E63 AMG is now even more powerful and efficient. As part of the “AMG Performance 2015″ model strategy, the high-performance EClass now features the new 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine. Familiar from the 2012 CLS63 AMG this new engine can produce either 518 hp or 550 hp, together with an impressive reduction in fuel consumption – 22 percent less based on the European driving cycle. Also responsible for improved fuel economy is the newly developed electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering system which only draws power during steering wheel movements. The 2012MY E63 AMG goes on-sale in the U.S. this Fall.

This eight-cylinder powerhouse, designated internally as the M157, boasts a combination of innovative high-tech components such as spray-guided direct gasoline injection with piezo injectors, a full aluminum crankcase, four-valve technology with camshaft adjustment, air/water intercooling, generator management and an Eco Stop/Start system. With a displacement of 5,461 cc the eight-cylinder engine develops a peak output of 518 hp and torque of 516 lb-ft. In conjunction with the optional AMG Performance Package, these figures increase to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft. Both variants of the E63 AMG achieve exceptional performance: acceleration from zero to 60 mph takes 4.4 and 4.3 seconds respectively and the top speed is 155 mph or 186 mph with the AMG Performance Package (electronically limited).

Enjoy my friends :t-cheers:

Finally. What a great timing concering the debut of the M5 in Shanghai.
This is going to be a M5 killer with the performance pack. Also love the new steering wheel, gear selector from the CLS and colour display in the tacho!

Hmm...Nice, but some part of me wanted them to keep this engine for the CL, S, and CLS exclusively.

I know this thread is about the powerplant upgrade, but I gotta ask.... that's the E63 AMG ??

That's it? Looks very tame and subdued. With that appearance it could easily be passed-off as a simple Sports Package.

As always, more power is nice! Good thing they got this info out before the new M5 debuts in a few months.

Like the current W212 E63 AMG this thing's going to look magnificent on the road. I have read that Merc have managed to imbue this new turbo'd V8 with a still decent baritone. In the grand scheme of things, I feel that this will be the better engine than the M156.

I think we can all agree that while the AMG wheels arent exactly ugly, they aren't they look boring. Seems like they're following Porsche tactics; make the standard wheels bland so that your forcefully shell out an extra couple thousand for the better looking wheels.

Heck, that E63 looks LESS aggressive than the first photos we got of the new Audi A6 a couple of months back.

Though, when I think about it again, maybe those wheels are supposed to convey more a sense of 'Wolf in Sheeps Clothing' similar to the E39 M5 to attract the more conservative Executive owners.... rather than being a complete extrovert with 'Look at Moi!' appeal.

Not ugly or boring by any means....I actually like it quite a bit...but it's just not AMG-enough.

Did anyone note that it`s 0-100km/h time is faster than the 612hp S65? Wow!

0-100km/h is no fun and overated figure. Lets use a more intresting measurement. How much faster is E63 0-160km/h, 0-200km/h, 100-200km/h in fourth gear than S65? E63 should be quicker I think since its a lighter car.

AMG M-Bs' are certainly photogenic cars !

Obviously no big fan of the W212 E-Class, I have yet to find a photograph of the AMG version that I did not find captivating. Odd...

Yep, lets wait to see those numbers in tests!
That 0-100km/h time (4.2sec) is for the 518hp M157, is it not??

If it`s really that damn fast, what about the 550hp version!:usa7uh:

Where did you get that figure from?

From the Press Release in the OP:
Both variants of the E63 AMG achieve exceptional performance: acceleration from zero to 60 mph takes 4.4 and 4.3 seconds respectively...

From AMG's website:
0-60 mph: 4.3 secs.

Both show a slower time, and that's only to 60 mph, not 100 km/h. Confused.
