Athletic Design of smart #3

Premium design inside and out
The design of the smart #3 is defined by seamless, smooth lines and athletic curves, aimed at enhancing its aerodynamic performance. The body is further accentuated with numerous detailing. At the front, slimmed down CyberSparks LED headlights are paired with a distinctive “shark nose” and A-shape wide grill. On the sides, the prominent two-tone roof meets with the signature line that resembles a tensed bow, creating a smooth, elegant sporty fastback silhouette. The spoiler, C-pillar and the rear fender combined with the bumper create a modern curvature and taillights with pixelated elements support the premium feeling.
In the interior, the cockpit takes up the sporty energy with circular shapes evocative of turbine intakes, embedding voluminous elements throughout a calm and stylish architecture. The sculpted dashboard flows seamlessly into a high console, housing the central cockpit, a 12.8-inch elevated central screen.

The airy and expansive interior of smart #3

The combination of natural light from the halo roof and artificial illumination from multi-coloured ambient lighting further enhances the airy interior atmosphere. Thanks to a longer wheelbase the smart #3 offers an even more spacious interior. Integrated headrests additionally increase the driving comfort and underline the sporty interior design concept. Meanwhile, the infotainment system, equipped with a 13-speaker Beats® Soundsystem, complements the avant-garde smart #3 cabin experience.
Furthermore, the smart #3 will come in new and exciting colours, including a vibrant Photon Orange Metallic and a futuristic Electric Blue Matte exterior as well as a new Vibrant Brown interior variant.
The smart #3 will be presented to the European audience at IAA in September 2023, before launching in the respective European markets early next year. Further details on the new smart #3 for the European market will be released at a later stage.

The reinvented Smart company has officially taken the wraps off its second car at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show. Called #3, its an all-electric crossover designed by Mercedes and built around a platform from Smart’s new co-parent, Geely, and is aimed at big-volume EVs like the Tesla Model Y.

We got our first look at the coupe-SUV last November thanks to pictures released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which also supplied us with far more technical information that Smart has chosen to dish out in Shanghai.

That info included a full set of dimensions revealing that the #3 measures 4,400 mm (137.2 inches) long, 1,800 mm (70.8-inches) wide, and stands 1,600 mm (62.9-inches) tall. It also has a wheelbase of 2,785 mm (109.6-inches) which is 35 mm (1.4 inches) longer than the #1 whose Geely Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform and running gear it shares.

Smart hasn’t revealed the motor lineup for the #3, but if the options exactly match those in the #1 the most basic version of the new car will come with a single 268 hp (272 PS) electric motor driving the rear wheels. At the other end of the price and performance spectrum, the range-topping Brabus model should add a 154 hp (156 PS) front-mounted motor, making for a combined 422 hp (428 PS).

A single interior image shows the #3’s cabin to be almost identical to its little brother’s, and featuring a high centre console that sweeps up to the base of a floating 12.8-inch tablet touchscreen, while a second digital display behind the three-spoke steering wheel handles instrument duties. The only major difference between the two cars’ dashboards appears to be the design of the center air vents: three rounds ones for the #3 and two narrow rectangular units for the #1.

Smart says the #3 will make its European debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year and will go on sale in the region in early 2024.

It has general Tesla details on the front, but this one seems nice to me

They definitely took great care with these #1 and #3, the design looks worked, it looks competitive

The interior design looks really nice. I would totally buy one of these if they still sold in the US. What a mistake it was to leave with these products in the pipeline.

Yes. That’s a revolutionary design for a Smart. Inside and out it’s light years ahead of anything they’ve ever done. They definitely should have stuck it out here in the US. Smart could have easily been their all EV brand. They could always relaunch the Smart here. Others brands have left and come back. Wouldn’t be too hard, most dealerships would just have to put the Smart sign back up.

What Mercedes did for this new Smart car, design? Its a good thing to revive the brand on a Geely EV platform. Shame on Mercedes to not build a good platform for affordable EV's.

The affordable BEV platform is not the field of work of brands such as Mercedes. Volkswagen's domain.

"This is smart #5, the electric minivansuv with 600 km of autonomy that arrives in Europe in 2025 as big as the MINI Countryman"
