Phantom [Official] Rolls-Royce Phantom (VIII)

Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.
This is car is beyond being just an automobile. It's an ultra-luxury item. An icon. An institution. A statement.
This one & Bugatti Veyron / Chiron. Period.

A Veyron is not an icon nor an institution.

Looks like Shaq is upgrading to the VIII. I remeber his silver Phantom VII (in the background) being one of the first in the US many years ago. He still drives it

Perfect car for him. Huge! I'm worried about him though he isn't looking well lately.

Not only is he a tall dude, he's just a big dude. With age and not working out like he was when he was balling, it looks like it's taking a toll on him. Always like the guy; a monster in his hey-day on the court, giant goofball off of it.

Also nice spec on his new Phantom.

Indeed. He has been more active as of late though.

Inside the NBA on TNT is arguably the funniest live show on TV. He and Charles Barkley always going at it

I remember when he showed off his W220 on MTV cribs I think. He'd be looking out the back passenger window when driving :ROFLMAO:

Speaking of height, an old colleague of mine is Shaq's height. I brought him with me to the London Autoshow in 2008. To my amazement he simply didn't fit 95% of backseats. Long wheelbase S or Mulsanne were the only cars he could sit moderately comfortable in when in the back.

Strict two seats like the MX5, Z4 or Aston Martin Vantage are out of the questions. Whenever we rode the London underground he had to sit down or else his back would hurt from having crouching.

It was certainly an insight into the life challenges of being "too" tall. Not to mention the tiring jokes about "how the weather is up there" in addition to carnivals of tourists wanting to take photos with you.

Once that NBA comes through, these things become pretty tolerable :D

See, what the car has is presentation. Nothing else in the luxury space has it like this car. The Bentley Mulsanne is still my choice because it is sportier, but the Phantom is a bigger event on the road and when parked. Nothing else can touch it in that regard.

Was driving alongside a car very similar to this covered in camouflage. What could that have been?

N.B. Too dangerous to take pics I'm afraid.

Clearly the best luxury car money can possibly buy.

If someone else posted this, it would've been an instant dislike ;)

Yes I will not dislike the original poster as I have done in the past. But additional post my ongoing crusade against these -Air-Quote "social media journalists" not the poster.
