R8 Official R8 Thread

This is awesomeee! It's even more than I expected! This is like BANGGG! I'm sure that R8 is more of a breathtaking car at first sight than it is new CL or 335i (newest from MB and BMW)...Thanks for pics!

This is just. ... Oh...Audi... I'm crying a tear, like an real enthusiast!
This is just...

I'm going to say that this car looks even better than one of it's much lauded arch rivals, the V8 Vantage.

Mine would have to look like this!

I`ve been waiting for this thread for quit some time. I must say this car is stunning, very nice design work by Audi. I`m wondering how well this car will compete against the Porsche 911. Audi called the 911 the R8`s main compeditor in a press release not too long ago.

(Anyone up for an early poll contest on which design or numbers thay like best between the 911 and R8?)

Okay people.
It's time for me to sum up my feelings after looking at the car for about an hour now, and just drooling and drooling.
I have to say that many have to agree without, Audi-fans or not, I mean generally car-fans that this is a piece of superb egeneering. THis is like a german Ferrari we see, if I could put it this way?
When the Le Mans Quattro concept car was presented in 2003, this was the car I cherished the most. I got all pictures of it on my comp, and I have always been dreaming of Audi making this car come true. It has been a long wait, and now it's finally here.
I never thought it would happen, but it actually looks BETTER then the concept car"!
And for us Audi-fans. What a day!? An Audi with 40/60 4WD, an engine in the back!!!! That IS a true sportscar. We finally got it. After so many years. It's here. And the world bows down for this car. This is a special day in automobile history, ladies and gentleman. Imagine what the more powerful engine variants will do to this car....;)

I'm in no way an Audi fan but it does look superb and especially at that price represents amazing value. Well done Audi.

Great looking car. The front looks very aggressive, espcially with that Audi grille. The headlights look like 2 mean looking eyes staring you in the face.

Better looking than the Gallardo?? I don't think so, as I still think the Lamborghini's are better eye candy from a supercar point of view.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is this 4.2L V8 FSI powerplant the EXACT same unit as in the RS4?
2) What exactly is this new gearbox? Is it a variation of Audi's DSG? Is it a torque converter automatic gearbox? Is it something like BMW's SMG?

I am actually not a big fan of the front but I do like the rear and interior of the car. The grill seems too plain and large without the four rings sitting inside of it, and the grills in the front with all that plastic seems a little cheap to me.

My question is... how much????

Ive been holding my opinion until the final press release and I have to say that i think its SUPERB! Great job Audi. This certainly will be a great 911 competitior....I cant wait for the reviews.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
