The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It was introduced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG in 2006. Production ended in the first quarter of 2024. Production: June 2006 – March 2024

First look at Audi R8’s new all-LED headlights
Audi has gone one up on Lexus by offering the world’s first all-LED headlights for its new R8 sports car. Unlike the units in Lexus’ flagship LS 600h saloon, which use LED lights for the low-beam projectors, the new Audi lights use the efficient diodes for the low and high beams as well as the daytime running running lights and turn signals.
Individual LEDs, of which there are 54 in each headlight, are grouped into small clusters that gave developers greater freedom for their designs as the diodes can be placed in unconventional arrangements and patterns.
Other benefits of LEDs are their much longer lifespan, more natural looking light, smaller overall size and lower power usage (50 Watts for low beam and 6 Watts for daytime runners).

As much as I love the R8, I'd never ever buy it. Not because I don't love it enough, I just don't want/need the attention. Beyond that this is a collectors car and will be expensive to run, no doubt. A marvelous piece of engineering, design, and a testament to the capability of Audi as a company is what I love this car for and why I admire it so much.

Can LEDs really save gas?
We just came across this piece in The Detroit Free Press that talks about automotive light technology. It's a fairly lengthy but interesting look at how lights are developed and tested. It might seem like a rather mundane subject, but when you consider how important headlights and other lights are to motoring and motor safety, it makes for a good read. But for those who don't have the time right now, and let's face it, that's why most of you get your news from us in the first place, it tells of Ford's new light lab that allows the company to replicate just about any lighting condition on earth. From bright sunlight to pitch black, they use 5,000 watts of bulbs to duplicate any lighting conditions a driver might encounter. Then they put their own automotive lighting to the test to see how effective it is.
Besides the obvious visual performance of the lights, the automaker is also testing the efficiency of the elements. Seriously, they are looking at how new lights like LEDs can impact fuel economy and overall vehicle performance. As much as 5% of fuel consumption goes into powering a car's lights according to Mahendra Dassanayake, one of the senior staff technology specialists at the Dearborn facility. More efficient lighting equals more effcicient cars and trucks. The rest of the article goes on to show how GM and Chrysler as well as others are recognizing the benefits of LEDs and how their benefits are far-reaching. We encourage you to click over and read the whole article. While we've talked about "smart" headlights and innovative brake lights recently, we really have never thought about how these lights effect economy.

This is Audi's first mid-engined car in the decade, and it's impressive indeed. Considering it doesn't have any lineage like the 911 range to rely and build on... Just imagine the potential for this car!
What I'm worried about though, is that VAG might mess up their product range by introducing a V10 in the R8 or a V8 in the Gallardo. Hope it will never happen, it's perfect now.
Does anyone know the weight distribution of the R8?

Oh yes, I will definitely try to get all the pics/images I can. I think I have about a 3 weeks left until I get to test drive the R8...I can't freakin' wait!

Paid a visit to my local Audi dealer in hope of finding the R8 there since I had not seen it IRL.
When I step inside the dealer straight ahead were angry R8 head lights looking at me. The car was gray with black interior and was on sale for a whopping 1 340 000kr which is 34% more than the asking price.
The overall appearance is very eye catching and it's a clearly a car which doesn't go unnoticed, and standout significantly amongst the other rather subtle looking Audis.
Getting to see the car in the metal hasn't changed my opinion on it. It simply doesn't move me. Audi design cars with very discrete design and then they developed a mean looking R8. It all just feel fake and I wasn't moved by the car's design at all. It's uncool tyring to look cool and clearly Audi has designed a car out of the ordinary. The design felt a bit ungenuine and didn't look natural as the design of an Italian car. It has an Las Vegas/attention-whore design.
The R8 is in no way ugly but the design is simply not my cup of tea. For an exotic it doesn't intrigue me emotionally as a LP640, CGT or F430.
