911 (991) [Official] Porsche 911 (991 Series) GT3 RS

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car. Predecessor: Porsche 911 (997). Successor: Porsche 911 (992). Production: 2011-2019.
what's RMS?

Rear Main Seal. On the Mezger engines, quite a lot of them drips oil very slowly if the car is just sitting for sometime. Nothing too serious, besides the mess. The problem seems to be fixed or at least less prevalent in the 997.2 cars.

Hmm, if you read the comments (you need to speak German) by the Youtube clip poster on Youtube, it looks to me that there is some 'history' with the owner potentially not allowing Porsche a full investigation at the factory of the vehicle of the initial failure after just 480 miles (was run-in period adhered to?) but the owner insisted that the engine just be replaced (regardless whether it was at the root of the original issue) at the local Porsche Dealer (Porsche Zentrum). During that process (engine swap over) the aircon compressor got damaged and could not be repaired due to the spares not becoming available until November. It is unclear whether this (second failure at 1600 kms) was caused by said damaged part or some electrics. So it may be premature to conclude, that the engine is at the root of these issues...just saying.:)

Saw a lava orange Turbo S yesterday at the dealership. The color doesn't look anything like this pic. They should really call it "Light Salmon".

The video is not available and judging by the following posts, it has something to do with the GT3 reliability. Am I right? Also, is there any way to find and watch the said video?

Yea, it was a video showing fire damage to the engine bay of a new ultra violet GT3 RS. Guess they took it down. This is not the car, but the damage looked a lot similar to this -

^That image is of a white car that crashed -

But it is interesting that it has fire damage very similar to the UV car - which makes me wonder what came first - the crash or the fire.

Hmm, 'chicken & egg' kind of discussion, with that rear suspension damage all bets are off...in this context it may be important to note that stock (!!) 991 RSs are already being raced with some success in the German Porsche Sports Cup series (won the 1st race @ Red Bull Ring back in July (6x stock 991 RSs were at the start)). This series race reports are posted here:

This is customer racing, not factory prepared vehicles. If the 991 RS would have quality issues when being used in earnest, surely they would have manifested themselves during these kind of events. Just saying...;)

Where is the recession in Alberta? :D

With all this talk about the recession recently, I've been getting a vibe from many of the affluent car owners (at least here, in Calgary), that they're locking up more of their investment money into rare cars. I spoke to some of the 997 GT3 RS owners and when I asked them if they had ever "tracked" their cars, the most common response I got from them was that the car is just too "valuable" to take to a track.

Many of them are tired of investing on intangible commodities on the stock exchange (esp in light of what's happened over the last week) and are diversifying their investments. "With these type of cars, you get to see your investments everyday, occasionally use them and they appreciate in value too". The sad reality of this trend is that it makes these kind of cars even less attainable.

With that being said, after seeing the 997 and the 991 GT3 RS side by side, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, i'd pick the 997 any day. The Grey RS had a SharkWerks exhaust and the RS 4.0 had the Akrapovich exhaust - music to my ears .

Thanks for the info.

Agreed. I would take the 997.2 GT3 RS over the 991.

Kind of reminds me of this Porsche Carrera GT caught a few years ago that was left abandoned in a downtown, Calgary Alberta high rise building parking garage. Apparently, the owner said, he is travelling all the time and does not get any time to drive it. I doubt it ever saw the track.

While there are much greater tragedies in life and in the world, for a car enthusiast, seeing a car like that (or seeing an Enzo or some other amazing car abandoned somewhere, like Dubai, caked in dust/sand) just makes me sad. It's like a neglected wild animal left in a cage not being able to run wild as it should be able to do. Poor Carrera GT.

Owned by Volkswagen AG, it was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche.
