The Passat R36 doesn't carry its proportions well. The bulky front styling and overly long rear overhang on both the sedan and the wagon don't somehow suite the R moniker. The wagon seems the more attractive of the two. The wheels - despite being a sizeable diameter - seemed to be overwhelmed by the mass of (in this case rather blue) sheetmetal.

Interior is a bit too tinseltown for my tastes - hey I prefer metal inlays to wood but this is taking the recycled baking foil theme a little too far.

So, is the engine yet another development of the 15 degree narrow angle VR design?

I believe that in the 3.6 lt VR6 the angle is even smaller at 10.6 degrees.

Hell no to wood! This is R car, leave the wood for ordinary Passats and Phaetons!

I had the feeling!
It would be interesting to see how many ppl would choose this over Volvos` S60.

I don't think they're on sale yet hence no test drives

I think one test drive was done by AMuS but that was in German.

I'm sure the R36 is a good adition to the Passat range as it is.

But actually, after reading the comments, it would have been better if Volkswagen put a Twin-Turbocharged version of the 3.6 V6 producing at least 360 Bhp and had given the R36 the same styling as the Passat R-GT Concept.
