Thanks for the two vids Artist. Damn, you're giving Pagani a lot of mileage from pics of just two cars! I hope Horacio is paying you well!
Now, on to the engine tone... Pagani clearly have done much acoustic tuning to get the turbo'd V12 exhaust note to where it is. For an engine that makes its best at just 5000 rpm, they've still managed to extract a sense of urgency and effort in the upper rpm reaches. Nice. Notice how much transmission whine there is out of that X-Trac transverse sequential gearbox. It's most prevalent when the car is revving in neutral and slowing on a trailing throttle. On the upshift there's a nice snort - not too dissimilar to what DSG-equipped VAG products make - and the best sequence is at 2:07 when we get the full taps and three upshifts on the main straight.
Now all we need is the full technical low-down on this AMG V12.
But really in the end, man that Zonda R. That's a ridiculously good sounding machine! Can't possibly be legal (I don't think it is).
^Nope its not road legal..its not even track legal.. it has to much sound..so what you need to do is to either own a track or hire the whole thing..( some far out in the bushes track)
But then again...who cares..just look at it..and its more or less the fastest thing around
I hope we see tests soon, cant wait to see EVO, Top Gear and Tiff drive the Huayra
This AMG engine is code named M158 and the 65 engine is M275
And a statement from pagani:
“The engine of the Pagani C9 is not a derivative of the AMG V12 engine developed for the SL65 Black Series, nor is the AMG V12 engine in the SL65 Black Series derived from the engine AMG is currently developing for the Pagani C9. The cars are very different in their character and conception and the engine will reflect this in its technical characteristics and behavior. The engine in the Pagani C9 has been developed specifically for that application by Mercedes-AMG GmbH.”
New code doesn't mean entirely new engine either. Obviously some parts are new but I think it is derived from the AMG 65 unit. In the Evo article, they interviewed the Pagani test driver - who said initially the engine power delivery was too brutal cause the Pagani was much lighter than the AMG cars and they had to use smaller turbos and different tune to adopt to the lighter weight. Also the displacement is exactly the same - 5980cc.
Its not a new block, the block is the same..but from there on there isn't much to compare.
I heard an interview with past AMG Engine Cheif.. who described how this was his last project and the pinnacle of his time at AMG. Its been totaly redone for the Huayra.. much more so than the 7.3l V12 in the Zonda
But hey if you don't believe AMG and Pagani..how can i convince you..
