What’s modern about it looks? Serious question, because I really don’t get what is modern about it’s awkward design. Same goes for the 7 by the way.

^ The sharp edges and creases are eye-arresting in the new 5-series. The E-Class is bold as well, just not quite as flashy looking.

This 5 though is nowhere near as bad as the 7.

Not really. The Mercedes has more rounded and softer curves. The BMW is more squared off. I prefer the former.

When you see the 5, instantly the E does not look so cheap inside anymore. Why is everywhere so cheapish feeling (door cards, switches) ??

I just tried to configure it in. They don't even offer it. I am blown away by that, I had configured an i4 that I nearly bought and it was available on that.

I am not saying the merc is not good looking but it is a typical merc while the new 5er with the sharp edges ,creases and flashy design make it looks more modern and interesting than the merc and that's my opinion which you don't have to agree with but the merc looks more luxurious for sure

The 5 series was introduced with the Mercedes cockpit layout of 2018. Maybe you don't know about it. Or you like it because BMW made it.

The new 5 doesn't have stitched upper dash, door tops or center console, which I think is a nasty cost cutting option. The stitching adds a great deal to the feeling of been expensive and gives a much higher quality impression than a regular molded soft touch dash/door tops.

The new E-class has the stitching even on the central arm rest cover which is a nice touch.

I really don't see how the 5 is modern because it has shar lines and all crap its the worse 5 design wise in recent years

I think I was expecting something like the iX. Which I consider really high tech, modern and minimalist.
