Re: FIRST OFFICIAL PIC!!! The new AUDI A4
I have followed this forum on a daily basis since the days it was on GCFans, I hardly post but feel like I know most of you very well, This site is a great mix of car fans and fanboys alike which makes it probably the best forum of its kind on the net.
Back to point:- I think Treeman888 makes a great point and is essentially very true, but I would like to add my two cents for what its worth.
The discussions surrounding this new mobel are as follows.
AUDI DESIGNS ARE SAME SHAPE DIFFERENT SIZE:
This is something that can be said of every manufacturer, how a new model looks is dependant on where that model traditionally is released according to the current design language cycle of that particular mmanufacturers.
Audi like Mercedes tend to introduce their new design language with the S-Class. How many of you were over joyed at the fact that the new C-Class was a 'Baby S-Class' probably as many who would have made the same shape different size. BMW on the other hand tend to for some reason tend to make their revolutionary design changes with the 5-Series. Now most of you would say 'no the 7er' but if you look at the 7er it is in design terms no different in styling elements than the E46 or E39 - with the addition of a few new styling elements to move away from the same shape different size argument.
The new 3er follows on from the current 5er as will the new 7 series be a again a mixture of current design language and the new design language that will become cemented in the next 5er.
I would hope you get the point here. The new A4 is the final piece of the design lanugage started from the A8 abeit the sudden adoption of the new grill posed a dilema hence the B7 as Treeman has clareified.
IT'S AN EVOLUTIONARY DESIGN
Yes it is! No more than what the current TT is to the old TT - look at the pic's and see the side profile of the two - all individual design elements to that model are carried over and incorportated into the current TT - exactly as in the new A4.
IS IT A FOUR DOUR A5
New models without an immediate predecessor give freedom to the manufacturer to show some creativity and differentiate from the rest of the range. Thats why the A5 is an A5 not a A4 coupe - does anybody see design elements of the B7 in the A5?
Like the R8 Audi hand carte blanc with this model. With the A4 it hand to incorprate previous design elements into the new model for sake of continuity
Conclusion.
We should see a design language change with Audi next A8 onwards, Mercedes did it with the S-Class and BMW with the 5 series.
This a perfectly acceptable new model - as I expected a A4 with A6/A8 design language with elements retained from the B7. IRL i am sure it will shine as all Audi's seem to do!!
PS most of what I said applies to the bread and butter saloon/sedans. I am sure the more knowledgable of you know model release sequences better than me but I am sure you understand this view...and no I am not an Audi fanboy, in this class I like all three models the B8,3er,and new Class each have their different merits, BMW 3er driving dynamics are fantastic, C-Class looks great and the Audi - we will have to see - however it looks good so far....
