The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.
Generally on ebay, if you want to get some high quality 1/18 scale Mercedes models, have a look at Autoart and this relatively new brand called "Almost Real".

Honestly, the S saloon is the only car I’m still enthusiastic about in this segment.
I’ve been thinking of getting a loaded CPO G12 as a temporary vehicle, but I got bored of it on a second test drive. The 7 just stirs no emotions from me. It completes it’s functions as an executive saloon well, but that’s kinda where it ends.
Looking at the A8 inside-and-out is the equivalent of watching paint dry, imo. I don’t think a S8 can save it’s aesthetics this time round.

Looks are subjective matter but IMO the "old" Mercedes S class is still holding very strongly against the new competition like the good looking Audi A8. The S is more regal in appearance inside and out.

I rode in a Maybach S550 today and couldn't help but think what is the point of getting a Maybach if you don't spec it with exceutive rear seats? Rode beautifully, but that missing element was underwhelming.
Unless you're a NBA center, the leg room in the regular LWB is more than adequate for non-executive seats.

I’m just a bit bored with it. I guess My attention has been focused on other things lately. Auto industry design is very conservative - whereas technology continues to advance very quickly. I understand the need to cater to the very mainstream tastes of the market but I wish they’d be a little more adventurous.
You’re absolutely right, but as you would know, the Maybach is about prestige rather than the practicality of extra legroom. For some people only the flagship model is desirable.

Now the top model from Mercedes-Benz is even more refined. A new radiator grille, optional two-tone paintwork and new exclusive colour combinations in the interior ensure an even more majestic look. The world premiere is at the Geneva Motor Show (6.3. to 18.3.2018). The sales start is in April 2018.
A reinterpretation of the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille with its fine, vertical struts accentuates the front end. The grille was inspired by a pinstriped suit. It celebrated its world premiere in the Vision Mercedes‑Maybach 6, the exclusive coupé study which thrilled connoisseurs and fans of the brand in 2016.
Return of the King? Maybach Coupé
The two-tone exterior paint finish is also a classic Mercedes-Maybach theme. In future there will be nine different colour combinations available on request. The double clear coat is available as a further new option for all dark colours. It creates a brilliant surface finish with a piano lacquer effect and a special impression of depth. The second bodywork clear coat, including intermediate sanding, is intricately applied by hand in the Maybach Manufaktur by specially trained varnishers.
The exterior look of the top model is rounded off by a new luxury 20‑inch multi-spoke wheel. There are also three exclusive 20-inch wheels to choose from for the Mercedes-Maybach, including the wheel with a 20‑hole design familiar from the Mercedes-Maybach S‑Cabriolet.
Two new exclusive colour combinations are offered in the interior: armagnac brown/black and savanna beige/black. The black Maybach Exclusive nappa leather upholstery appointments can also be ordered with a choice of copper-, gold- or platinum-coloured contrasting topstitching. Also new in the range are trim inserts in designo flowing lines Magnolia.

The Maybach grill looks hideous in the pictures IMO when compared to the beautiful MB classic grill. As usual the design team first put out the beautiful Maybach coupe concept with the beautiful grill design that looks very regal. Then comes the surgery on the pretty S class with the ugly version of the Maybach grill. The paint and the grill are not working for me.
The timing of this version of the Maybach may be providing the indication that the next Maybach may be more exclusive in appearance than the current application. The new S class is on the corner and I am hoping that the very good looking Maybach coupe concept would be made into production as the design was shown.

Omgee!! I thought it was just another aftemarket knock off for a sec but this is the real deal, this is how the car should have been since day one lol..it is however very strange as to how and why would MB introduce the new grill and two tone paints out of the blue..strange and wonderful nontheless, the grill adds bags of exclusivity and luxury while the two tone paint works surprisingly well...
