S-Class (W222/C217/A217) [Official] Mercedes-Maybach S600 (X222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
XL, sounds like you're fat and gives no inclination of luxury. Maybach gives a sense of exclusivity. I don't think they should or will treat it necessarily as a trim for all model lines

This is obviously strategic build up,i have no doubt that if this car is a success we will definitely see a 500K fully fledged model in the future to truly take on RR and even Bugatti's future uber sedan.

If this is a success I bet the preliminary work on such a model will start in less than a year's time. It would be based on the next generation S-Class of course.

100 posts and I have not yet read one good compelling reason why this had to be called a "Maybach" from either Mercedes or its fans. The car would have made just as strong a business case named S4/5/600 XL.

First of all it is Not Maybach, it is Mercedes Maybach a brand new sub brand. Just like Mercedes AMG being the performance version of Mercedes saloons Mercedes Maybach is an attempt by Mercedes to create an ultra luxury version of their saloons.

With Mercedes-Maybach, we are applying the same
logic as Mercedes-AMG,
but in the area of prestige
and exclusivity. It is not
an equipment line; it is a
sub-brand that, in future, will deliver Mercedes-Benz vehicles in an even more exclusive form

First, stop stating the obvious - my question was why use "Maybach" in the name? Weather it is the whole name or part is tangential. Second, AMG is not some made up sub brand. There is real engineering behind AMG cars like exclusive engines, suspension tuning, not just bucket seats, some extra CF and a badge. I can't get go buy a Mercedes AMG S400. This "Mercedes Maybach" is more like the AMG sport kit or whatever that you slap on to your MB.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 shown in side profile. :)

Wolfgang, this wheel look so ordinary and if not wrong it has already used in S-Guard. So is this Guard version? More over the badge on the side look like 4Matic or some other word, not V12 for sure; what is it?

As some mentioned above I also feel that Mercedes-Maybach is just a first step to an exclusive model line up like the Mercedes-AMG with more attention given to luxury, exclusivity and even engineering input to make it highly comfortable, quieter and refined. If everything goes well, Mercedes-Maybach may have a exterior design supremacy with additional trim or different/exclusive looks.

Why would a luxury band need brands new engines and suspension tunes? That's not luxury. It's the interior and the comfort inside that matters when it comes to luxury i.e. comfy seats and all other bells and whistles. As a luxury sub brand Mercedes Maybach is spot on.

Even though they have created a separate car for it? There are no non-Maybach XXL S-Classes in the W222 generation.

If there is anything that Maybach shows, it is that the leaked pictures of the Pullman is exactly what that car will be.

Never the less this is what the Maybach has to compete against.
The Extended Wheelbase Rolls-Royce Ghost.

You do realize that suspension tuning can go the other way too and make things smoother and more comfortable? Same with engine tuning, VW does it with both V8 and W12 - both are tuned to make less power but more torque in the non "Speed" Bentley applications compared to their Audis counterparts.

Even though they have created a separate car for it? There are no non-Maybach XXL S-Classes in the W222 generation.

But who created it? Mercedes or Maybach? Does Mercedes supply a normal S class to the Maybach factory which then Maybach extends it and adds the interior? Is there even a Maybach team or factory anymore? Or does Mercedes just make the car and slaps on a badge at the end? I don't know the definitive answers but have an inkling it is not favorable. Maybe @Wolfgang?

I would suspect it is made on the same assembly line as the regular S-Class models this time around. I really don't know either.

Whilst watching Gordon Wagoner wax lyrical on the "Haute Couture" image of Maybach I am reminded of when this happened by that self proclaimed "Fashun GENIUS" which actually had some customers running to the hills or Rolls-Royce.

Anyway, the reason why I disagree with 'some' people is because I find this car to be very underwhelming in almost all aspects. It's just not special enough. There's a huge gap between a 7 Series and a RR Ghost, compared to this and the standard S-Class. The Maybach sub-brand might attract a much bigger market now, but its ultra-high-end status has been degraded.

Then if you disagree with what someone said, just simply post your opinion as to why you disagree them, since I think the disagree symbol gives people a negative rating.(y)

Wait....you really think that Jay-Z and Mr. Kardashian butchering a Maybach steered folks away from buying a Maybach?

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
