Let’s be honest, the biggest problem of the EQS is its name.

It’s not an electric S-Class.

It’s an excellent car however, but not a proper S-class.
I would argue the looks were a problem too. How much so is hard to quantify.

It's f#ck ugly, and an EV... and you think the name is the biggest problem?

I think the EQ cars with a price cut would sell well, if only because we're approaching a fuel shortage globally.

They sell at 50% discount for years in China, how much cheaper do they need to be?

China is unarguably the most competitive EV market in the world.
Other parts of the world that are concerned by possible fuel shortages might buy in if the price is right.

The updated EQS is not uncompetitive from an EV tech point of view. 930km WLTP "range" is excellent.
We'll see I guess.

I agree it’s absolutely ugly, GW obviously let the wind tunnel design the car.

EVs and luxury cars doesn’t go well, we know this.

But the first thing you do is read the Name, the second thing is you see the car and think WTF.

Let me explain. Here in Switzerland the dealerships put big Stickers with the name EQS on the windows, but the cars were hidden behind GLS and V-Classes.

If somebody was interested to know what an EQS is, he had to go inside und let the sales person show him that car.

This thing doesn’t even look like a Mercedes Benz and it’s as far from an S-Class away like the moon from the earth.

My wrecked out 120d which I bought for a couple of grand off a guy with an eye patch and a hook for hand did more than 920km on a tank of fuel... and even if you take the 50% discounts Mercedes are giving in China for the EQS, it was still less than a tenth of the cost to purchase. You clearly have set your hopes for Mercedes products very, very low.
EQS vs 120d ?

Why don’t stick on to Maybach here!
Here's where the conversation diverged:
The EQS with this new AMG grill looks so much better than the launch car with the ugly new classic grill, but it looks out of place next to the 2x S-class models (regular and Maybach). It looks like a large CLA and doesnt have the majestic look of the ICE saloons.

Technically, there's no large sedan that can compete with the EQS. The 920 km range is setting standards. My feeling is that the hatred towards the EQS will lessen. We need to see the sales figures.

Wish list: regular wheelbase S680 Maybach. Will never happen.

It can’t cost that much to update or develop a new V12. You have an inline 6 and all the know how in the world. Just do it. GLS, S, and SL all could use it.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
