One of the reasons the V12 didn’t sell as well as expected is because the E-ABC wasn’t available with this engine.

You had to choose between the smoothest engine or the smoothest suspension.

It’s absolutely madness that the top dog still isn’t available with the best suspension on the market.
I think I've explained before that I believe this is due to the 48V system which at present is not compatible with the M279. They probably should update it, but I'm not sure they'd bother with the expense. They've also had to reduce the torque because the AWD 9G-Tronic isn't rated for 1000+Nm.

Maybe they will adapt it in the future, but given how few of them are sold, maybe not worth the expense. Unless enough Maybach customers demanded it.

Europe not seems to be the most important market for Maybach like China, US, S.Korea, Gulf region and India (in India Maybach S out sells regular S-Class), so it doesn’t mean they will not be interested in developing the car according to the sales driven market. And V12 is considered as premium & prestige in those markets, so MB will or should be focusing on the customers requirements for important market.

If my memory was right there was a consideration of adding a hybrid (even mild hybrid) system for V12 to meet up with Euro emission norms and to enhance the power output flagship models.

Yes this is indeed the reason. The Mildhybrid system would improve the driving experience as well.

I mentioned it in several discussions with my dealer, it’s the main reason I went for the GLS Maybach. If there’s only V8s with the E-ABC I’d rather take the SUV.

The EQS with this new AMG grill looks so much better than the launch car with the ugly new classic grill, but it looks out of place next to the 2x S-class models (regular and Maybach). It looks like a large CLA and doesnt have the majestic look of the ICE saloons.

Technically, there's no large sedan that can compete with the EQS. The 920 km range is setting standards. My feeling is that the hatred towards the EQS will lessen. We need to see the sales figures.

My wrecked out 120d which I bought for a couple of grand off a guy with an eye patch and a hook for hand did more than 920km on a tank of fuel... and even if you take the 50% discounts Mercedes are giving in China for the EQS, it was still less than a tenth of the cost to purchase. You clearly have set your hopes for Mercedes products very, very low.

If the EQS has been a knockout design that sold, Mercedes would have had an even bigger decision make. That didn’t happen so the EQ lineup is history.

Let’s be honest, the biggest problem of the EQS is its name.

It’s not an electric S-Class.

It’s an excellent car however, but not a proper S-class.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
