It reminds me on the A8 W12.
Those were integrated better cause the grille slats were horizontal. Since Maybach has vertical ones it sticks out like a sore thumb imo.
And like I said, the ones on the sides are perfectly fine.

Small tweaks and it’s great.

Oh I see they finally did the Rolls-Royce thing and made the wheel emblems float, remain level when on the move - a really nice touch. It's been a killer feature on Rolls Royces for a while now.

If you want to drive the most luxurious cars, you have to live with the blingy exterior.

That’s the price you have to pay.

Were one to have the financial means necessary (and I imagine that those contemplating Maybachs indeed do), wouldn't Manufaktur (or BMW Individual, Porsche Sonderwunsch) be the appropriate address for the relatively "stealthly wealthy" ? From what I understand, these personalization divisions can configure, appoint and manufacture a vehicle precisely to customer specification. From exceptionally sublime understated elegance to the ridiculous.

Hence, does one "really have to live" with in your face bling ?

I must say the exterior changes to the Maybach S-class looks nicer than the standard S-class. It looks good front and rear and although the backseat looks very comfy and spacious the other interior changes to the standard S-class are very minimal. The seat materials and wood trim looks the same. A bit disappointing and I think it should be more bespoke. Maybe Mercedes should have shown Maybach models with special selected interior trim and seat materials from Manufaktur perhaps.

I already asked regarding the (GLS) Maybach, the answer was that they don’t do that.

A Maybach is a Maybach.

You know you can turn it off right? You can turn the brightness down, you can turn certain zones off too if I recall correctly.
Oh yes, for sure, but these were designed with the lights on in mind, and that looks cheap af. You dont see Bentley or RR do that, yet somehow you want to compete with them?

Anyways, it does not change the ugly hyperscreen, those panel cuts between the screen area and the vents, and the separate screens inside look so dated.

Screens are cheap in general, but if you execute well it can be good. Now, here we have a situation where they maxed out the screen area, and the execution is poor, so its neither an old school luxury vibe competing with Bentley and RR, nor a very high tech look competing with the Chinese - its the kind of compromise we can safely call “the worst of both worlds”.

Bentley's and RRs are anywhere from 50% more expensive to twice the price. And they're just as ostentatious and vulgar -just in a different way.

If you have this much money, you choose based on what you want. And some people want the discolight interiors.

I disagree that the description of those cars is vulgar; on the contrary, Mansory is vulgar, Brabus is vulgar etc.

I agree, especially Rolls Royce is sometimes vulgar, especially the black badge editions.

However I really like the first new generation of the Phantom and Ghost and their coupe and convertible versions, but the current Phantom and especially the Cullinan look hilarious.

Bentley is thankfully less flashy.

I am also not a big fan of the badge overload like on the SL680 Maybach.

I like ambient lighting, but it shouldn’t be ott.

Now that stuff has cooled down…

Do you guys think that if Maybach introduces something like a Maybach 62 to be the Epitome of the brand in today’s age it would do well?

I’d prefer an even longer S Maybach with 2 luxury seats in the back.

It’d need to be approximately 5.8m long to be able to accommodate them.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
