GLS [Official] Mercedes-Maybach GLS (X167)

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque's SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.

Mercedes Maybach GLS 480 4matic for China

Due to the extreme displacement tax in China, Mercedes now also offers the GLS - Maybach with 6-cylinder
While the G-Class is also sold with a 4-cylinder in China , Mercedes-Benz is now adding the Maybach GLS variant. In Germany the M256 with 367 hp is only sold in the “normal” GLS 450 4matic. In the Middle Kingdom, this variant can now also be ordered as a luxurious Maybach GLS variant.

In China, the M256 with 367 PS and 500 NM is sold as the Maybach GLS 480 4matic. It sprints to 100 km / h in 6.6s and consumes 9.5 liters per 100 km and is therefore 2.5 liters more economical than the GLS 600 4matic with 557 hp. The difference between the GLS 600 4matic and the GLS 480 4matic is around 63,000 EUR in price.

As of January 1st, 2021, Germany will also have an increased CO2 vehicle tax for newly registered cars with increased CO2 emissions, but this is probably extremely mild compared to China.

In Germany, the GLS 600 Maybach is already sold out for the entire year 2021.

Successful sub-brand: Mercedes-Maybach
The Mercedes-Maybach brand stands for exclusive luxury, maximum comfort and state-of-the-art technology in automobile construction, service offers and accessories. She is considered a pioneer in defining style and status. The maxim of its namesake, Wilhelm Maybach, was to create the very best from the very best. In 2014, Mercedes-Maybach established itself as a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz as part of a reorganization of the brand world. Since the market launch in 2015, the Mercedes- Maybach S-Class has been delivered more than 45,000 times worldwide . In 2018, more Mercedes-Maybach S-Classes were sold than ever before: every seventh S-Class model sold was a Maybach.

This all black with lots of chrome trim and chocolate brown interior looks quite good

The local dealer can't get enough of these and they have a waiting list. I'm floored by this.

Really? It's much better than it gets credit for on here I think. It's not trying to be a Bentayga or Cullinan. It's just a pimped up GLS. And not a bad looking one IMO. It's quite bling in some specs, because most people buying this vehicle want to be seen, but that can be toned down with single tone paint and the black grill elements instead of chrome.

I do concede though, it's not the GL'S' I wanted Mercedes to build.

He did say that they're taking and ordering solid colors, no two tone models have shown up yet.

Not what I wanted either. In this segment it's the Alpina XB7 for me or a Range Rover. GLS is just too pedestrian for me.

The ultimate discrete chauffeur driven car or mobile office.
I would have this as the daily and a Flying Spur for weekends or leisure.

Gypsy-Wagon.

Germans really are not able to design a classy SUV. I lost that hope over a decade ago. Exception G-Class and Cayenne, just because it’s a little weirdoo. Both in line with Range Rovers and Volvo XC90 which really are designed as upmarket SUV’s.

With some little exterior tweaks it’s impossible to turn that grumpy GLS into a Maybach cruiser.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
