SLK/SLC-Class (R172) [Official] Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG

The Mercedes-Benz R172 is the third generation SLK-Class (SLC-Class) launched in 2011. It is the successor to the R171. Production: 2011–2020.
Yeah, apparently Mercedes feels that it is necessary for you to be able to drive your SLK AMG upside down.

I suppose they set it up this way to simulate the movement of the fluids under cornering forces.

It will be interesting too see how cylinder deactivation does time around. It is been around since 80s, I think Cadillac was the first. Mercedes it self had it in their V12 in 2001 S600 and CL600 - Active Cylinder Control - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and the version Chysler uses in their Hemi - Multi-Displacement System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Their is Honda's VCM - Variable Cylinder Management - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and GM's - Active Fuel Management - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

30 milliseconds is all what it takes to go from four to eight action..nice..

Exceptional video! That's how new engines and new technologies should be presented! Great work AMG, on both the engine and its presentation!

Now where is the video of the S63TU?

That new 5.5L AMG V8 alone makes M-B a more desirable proposition going froward - against I6's and V6's etc.

The more I think of it, the more I believe that this will be the next AMG engine for the C-Class. Maybe even before the existing model ends production. With this whole move toward downsizing, emissions compliance and economy surely the M156 is now on its last legs (how sad is that?) and the C63 AMG is the pinnacle. From here, it's downhill to the more pragmatic approaches to performance car powerplants. The C55 AMG must surely be on the cards. The engine has more than adequate credentials; it's 5.4-odd litre capacity makes a healthy 540 Nm (100 up on the current RS5 and 140 up on the outgoing M3) and its 315 kW is all that is needed in a car such as this in the new dispensation. There's more to this engine's engineering and technology effort than "just" the SLK.

Luving that video!! :D
Any idea on type of gear change setup on the new SLK55? is it a double clutch or something "similar" to it..? sounds like the gear changes are faster...:t-drive:
...and in the few videos sounds like a monster!!! specially downshifting.

I saw a SLK 350 AMG on a parking lot .. and i must say i was impressed..
and that's after hating it irl at the geneva show..
Something about that grey AMG package in city surroundings just spoke to me..

Maybe i shouldn't hate it as much as i do;)

Yea, you really shouldn't. The front is kinda doozy on some days, but I still think its a good design. Not perfect by any means, but definitely not bad enough to hate it or call it ugly. The rear is I think is actually quite well executed. It looks classy and sporty at the same time, but the interior is what everyone seems to forget. To be honest, besides from the shifter, it really does look like a SLS' interior, which isn't really a good thing, but for the sake of the SLK its great. You're literally getting into a near identical interior for fractions of the cost. I do like the SLK, but I still think BMW has an edge here.

MCT would make this car that much sweeter... cant wait for reviews on this new SLK55. Specially handling, weight, and of course how fast those gear changes will be...
Oh cant help wonder if there will be a BlackSeries SLK55 ????? maybe being Mercedes Benz, they might reserve the MCT for the SLK55 BS ??? if so, that would really be a pity---but would not be surprising---
