Production March 2011–2020. Model years: 2012–2020.
^Don't you just love his posts.:)

Seriously..i don't wanna hear crap from anyone here about the SL's looks inside out..:D

Hot damn. The SL just feel "right" here. Calm, effortless and rich in those pics. This is how I've been wanting to see/feel it.

The new SL to dream about. The car looks progressively better: from the 550 to the 63 and now to the 65. Invisible design cues work very transparently. And yet, for all the dazzle and "extra" stuff that comes standard, you still have to pay for Magic Sky Control? I thought AMG 65s were fully loaded and option-less (may end up being so in the USA).

How about an uprated wheel/tire package, Mercedes? 738lb/ft of torque on 285mm rear wheels appears too overwhelming and not fair on the tires. Still leaves something for a future Black Series, I suppose.

Still, at the end of the day, it becomes very hard to shell out over twice the price of a SL that still has a twin-turbo v8 with 516lb/ft of torque that is much more manageable and still capable of 4-sec flat acceleration. Very hard, if you are not fully at the "money-no-object' level.

Ok I'm the biggest hater of the R231 in here...
But I never knew that this will happen to me...
This color is the most majestic color I've seen in my entire life... literally :icondrool
I'm in love with this color and I want to paint my skin in it!!!!
What they did with this car is something I cannot understand... maybe it's mostly because of the color but I'm about to say something I may regret...
This particular vehicle is now officially a dream car of mine :t-banghea

How much Mercedes, how much ? :eusa_pray

EDIT:

OK now I won't be able to sleep at all so I'll add more to my post :) :) :) :)
I think the SL is aggressive and luxurious but really lacks sophistication and that's why I hate it...
This color totally adds the sophistication needed !!!! The whole SL65 package is perfect...
630PS... 7Speed Dual-Clutch... less than one ton but yet heavy enough to be the luxurious roadster it is... Hard roof to have a coupe when you want it and a cabrio to be that a**hole on the streets like nobody else and the feeling when you cruise with the top down...
This color may look too bland on a car with cleaner(maybe better) design but on that crazy SL I think it turns out to be the perfect match in the automotive world...
I have just described my dream car... Waiting for pricing before opening a thread :D
Gosh... one more fan added to the MB bunch of guys... how did that happen :)
My most emotional comment on this forum and I sound stupid as hell maybe but that's how this car makes me feel:0vr:

I don't care what anyone says. This car is absolutely sexy, been a fan of this car since day one and it just seems to be getting better and better.

Really beautiful. I can smell the leather from here. Those are the sorts of feelings the SL should evoke. The front looks SO much better on this.

Damn! Those pics make me question my 458 order. One thing I don't understand on the new transmission is that it can supposedly handle up to 1000 NM whilst in the press release it states that the new SL65 produces 1001 NM. Does this mean the new SL is sitting right at the torque limit of the new gearbox? Sounds tight (unless I misunderstood something - which is very likely)

Ken

It's a completely different car, but I wouldn't question my 458 order, hahah ^^

I think it's safe to say we've reached the top now, with SL65 AMG.. ;)

Not if they come up with a Black Series again :)
I love the simple differentiation from the SL63... The beautiful front lip and the V12 badge are a must have :)
Probably buying an SL63, repainting it and painting the front lip ala SL65 is a wise idea as I cannot live without this color and front lip but then again the SL65 is about the same price as a Ferrari... A fully decked one will be way over 200k Euro I guess... But I really dream of having this car now!

I was not expecting this MB to come out with another V12 model in this current environment. In fact, I was thinking about getting a used W220 S600 just for fun to experience what a Merc twin turbo feels like to own/drive, as I thought V12's would not be made anymore.

As others have noted, it's nice to see MB finally able to put in their 7 speed tranny to work with the twin turbo V12 engines.

Roger, sir. I'll put the ninjas in high alert mode, ready to attack!

Good work man..

Now i want a poll between this car and the SLS roadster..i think i'll be voting for the SL this time.:)

The sad thing is that we'll have to wait quite some time till we see the black series edition.

I'll take the SL65 too :)
The Black Series will be too hardcore for this type of car IMO and I think the perfect SL is the 65 :)

Where is the AMG growl?

Since it's a V12 it lacks that mean and growling bark of the V8's. V12 Mercs usually sound smoother but less dramatic.

For those familiar with ABC suspension, some interesting facts:

AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control

The lightweight design measures are not just limited to the body of the SL 63 AMG, however, as the steering knuckles and spring links on the four-link front suspension and almost all of the multi-link independent rear suspension's wheel location components are made of aluminium. The reduction in unsprung masses enhances both agility and the response characteristics of the spring-and-damper units.

Mercedes-AMG has retained the ABC active suspension and damper system: the new SL 63 AMG is equipped as standard with the AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control, but in a further improved version. Exceptionally sporty characteristics with reduced roll angles and firm body damping ("Sport") or a more comfort-oriented setting for a high level of comfort on long journeys ("Comfort") can be selected at the push of a button. This together with the new electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering endows the flagship AMG model with fleet-footed, agile cornering and exceptional feedback at the limits of performance. The steering has a constant, more direct ratio, together with variable power assistance that adjusts depending on the suspension setting.
