Man, I really can't stand those bulging, misshapen lights. It's like they're at complete odds with the front of the car. I see a lot of SL AMGs driving around Jozi - they look magnificent - but I can't see myself being as appreciative of the R231.

Ironically, the best looking convertible in the Merc range is a good old soft top.

IMHO this time around the AMG styling changes brings to it a more harmonious flow and the grille treatment with the double slats works magic. Also the new front bumper, especially the 'bulges' on the outsides of the front bumper L&R brings the eagle-eye headlamp clusters more in balance.

Rear view is also attractive being classy, aggressive and sporty all at once in good balance.

All the balance lacking in the non-AMG R231 and it's lacking hugely on balance of design.

Nice job AMG! I like it:t-cheers:

Dont have the elegance of older SL and the front lights still need time to accept. But I would love to the testdrive one.

Oh yeah, this is the SL to own. The SL is BACK. BOOM. Wait until they show it in some other colors.

Amazing how when the AMG is shown everyone forgets what they disliked about the car. Benz never fails.

I think they work on the SL63.

I'm still not feeling the headlights either. It's rather frustrating because I really want to like this car rather than merely tolerate it. Need a good pic of the side profile. That interior, though, fantastic.

Would like to see a side-by-side comparison with the old SL 63.

About the best I can do right now. (I feel like I`m stealing Merc1`s thunder... he finds some of the best phots!)

We need to see some factory shots... those should be coming soon.

To me the new one looks more tame compared to the previous version. I like the more upright grill better on the new one though.

Very nice!
The AMG version has a flowing harmony about it.
The design works very well.

This just proves MB design knows what its doing. The old one looks dated next to the new one, though still attractive in its own right.
