SL-Class (R231) [Official] Mercedes-Benz SL (R231)

Mercedes-Benz launched the sixth generation SL, internally the R231, at the North American International Auto Show in January 2012. The R231 introduced aluminum bodywork, its weight advantage offset by higher safety and convenience equipment.

LOL haters. I LOVE IT. In a few months once digested and seen on the road it will look very avant-garde.

The interior is a bit meh. The SL deserved more bespoke control units. Even if they just changed the face plates and knobs.

Tarek, Artist etc. you should be ashamed. Control your outbursts otherwise we'll have to kick you out the MB fanboy club. :D

Same here..but for the record i love everything else about that car and i think the interior is even of higher quality than the SLS.:D

The front is gonna get some time to get used to at least during the day..at night am sure it'll be gorgeous from all angles.:)

You guys don't see it do you? You're talking about what a facelift will fix and how it looks at night? Uhhh....hello? That is a problem.

That is absolute art work. The way the trim has been incorporated into an interior which isn't designed around an oversized co punter screen is amazing. Definitely the best interior design of the year.

I am keen on the non-AMG version which I hope will be more gentle to the eyes. I had oped that the huge headlights would work better on this car than the SL but like many here have already uttered the graphics are horrid. However I wouldn't rle out Mercedes changing the graphics with the arrival of pre-scan next year which is why the lights are so huge to begin with. But like with some of the recent Mercedes cars this one is a bit over styled. The shot of brilliance is the interior and rear but the front and sides are incoherent with the aged body shape from the predecessor.

I could not connect, the server was not available. I understood there were new pics of SL. I think live the car will be ok, but the SL is still not hat good ofr what it should be. Previous generation was perfect, and it is nearly impossible to make perfect cars even better. Some examples IMO: Mercedes SL (R230), Maserati GranTurismo, Honda NSX, McLaren F1 to name a few.

I stumbled upon this article from Motor Trend. They've actually seen the car in person and below are their thoughts:

How does the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL look? Not very good, I'm sad to report.

When Mercedes peeled the cover back from the new SL, the room was utterly silent. Perhaps more telling, several of the Germans on hand had never seen the car in the flesh before. They didn't seem too impressed.

You get the sense that the accounting team said something to the effect of, "You only get 20 pieces of design flair; use them wisely." And somewhere around the A-pillar, they ran out. The result is that the front of the car looks nothing at all like the rear of the car.

The nose is aggressive, gnarled, and angular. The rear end is soft and smooth-looking. Weirder still, a third motif shows up when the SL is viewed from the side.

After looking more attentivly, it is not that bad still. Front could be alot better (CLS, B Class) but we'll get used to it. Quality and detail are top notch. Price is also going to be very high like S-Class I think.

Looks like they haven't yet figured how to center the vents and the center console, though it is a little better disguised than the SLK.

That last sentence highlight the same problem the new SLK has. The car simply isn't new. For both cars Mercedes have retained the roofs of the outgoing models and that severely limits what you can do to the res of the car. Thus both cars are crippled and look like massive face lifts instead of brand new cars. It's bad. Really bad. Harmony is absent and subsequently the cars look cool but not as mesmerising as a dream coupe from Mercedes should. My knees aren't weak and my desktop wall paper isn't tingling for a change. More so it's clamouring for a BMW Gran Coupe :)

BTW, does this car have MBC( Magic Body Control) ?
No mention of it. I'd say it will debut with the S-Class however the inner lower quarter of the headlight housing look empty enough to accommodate cameras and scanner for the 2014 model year.

I agree, the interior is wonderful. Looks really clean and of high quality. The exterior however is a disaster. I'm just in shock. Never thought there would be a SL that I don't like. Then again I said the same thing about the E-Class. Oh well.
