As announced, I test drove the Genesis G90 yesterday.

Here are a few personal observations, especially in comparison to the Mercedes W223.

Positive:
- It's a very elegant design, you can't see the car on every corner.
- Fine materials are used in the interior.
- The workmanship seems very high quality to me.
- I think it's nice that there are still buttons and that the entire operation isn't done via touch.
- The engine has enough punch.

Negative:
- I find the Mercedes W223 to be more comfortable.
- When accelerating after entering a street, I had the impression that the transmission sometimes took a second to remember when upshifting.
- It's a very big car at almost 5 meters 30. But I can easily bring it into my garage.
- The trunk seems quite small for such a big car.

Is this issue only prevalent during hard acceleration from stand still or also when driving casually in start and stop traffic?

That center console though.
It's a mystery why MB can't match it to the interior trim still.
Didn't the first model year cars with carbon fiber trim got it in the center console as well?

Interesting how Mercedes offers 3-versions of the SL with the M177 V8, yet customers are forced to go with the E-Performance setup on the S63.
There should be a detuned version of the S63 without the E-Performance package.

An S55 would probably do the trick.
But the SL is an AMG Sports Car now, and I think Mercedes are trying to curb their fleet emissions or some shit.

Nah they know no one will buy that S63 E if they can get a 575-600hp straight V8 S55. The new SL63 E P will likely never been seen on the street.

The reason for that is that your average S63 customer needs a huge, loud and showy battleship. You have to stand out from the sea of puny S450 drivers in terms of image. An AMG lite variant would make you look too poor for most people, therefore they need the most expensive option there is.

SL or AMG GT have regular V8 options, so that people have incentives to go for these vehicles. They are also very expensive, which means the manufacturer can justify using their high CO2 emitting drive trains on these vehicles.

I would add that the S63 E-Performance is sort of an S63 and S65 replacement.

It will definitely be priced as a S65 replacement.

I put it on YouTube with subtitles. Largely complimentary.
