The 7er is bringing nothing on the table, in a technical aspect, that an S doesn’t have. My guess is, BMW has understood, that in some areas, there is no point in competing the S.
From a customer point of view, it’s a pity it doesn’t offer AR HUD. Therefore it offers something completely different: a massive, huge piece of engineering, with a front fascia that in some specs looks frightening, not pretending to be a beautiful car per se, not easy on the eye, but undeniable with presence. If the people I spoke (in total 12, among them S, 7er and Bentley owners) who sat in it tell the truth, the quality of the interior, both fit and finish and the quality of the used materials is top notch, according to some on a higher level than that of the W223.
I see it as a positive, that W223 and G70 are totally different cars. Much better, than one trying to be the other and vice versa. The customer is the winner.
The 7 lost its own identity long time ago though. It’s been trying to be a S for years right down to the spec sheet. It hasn’t been the drivers car in this class in years. The fold out tv in the back is the antithesis of a BMW.

The W126 is indeed unmatched, still one of the highlights in S class history. Though I loved my W221 (attached picture shows exactly how mine looked) my favourite post W126 S class is W222.

Those were S 600 Final Edition wheels in my maket, grand.

And on cue, the MB fanboys have to start on how bad BMW is.

You guys are truly unbelievable lol. And utterly pathetic too.

There are beige 3,5,6 GT and 7 taxis in German cities.
But thats not its purpose, the purpose of a BMW car is to drive it yourself to feel the beast machine not to be driven by,the complete opposite happens with the S-Class the whole purpose of it is to be driven by a chauffeur+the E-Class to

BS. A Mercedes has always been a car for you to drive. It’s not their fault that they excel at both driving and riding in them. Millions of S Classes are driven by their owners.

Well for one no one is “trying to be a taxi car”, secondly BMW doesn’t have the durability to be selected as a “taxi car” in the first place.

M
Doesnt bentley have the durability to be selected as a taxi car?

The primary purpose of luxury sedans is to focus on the passenger, not the driver. Advocates of the gigantic cinema screen in the G70 forget this. Let them continue to deceive themselves. The S-class is still the pinnacle of this segment.

Im not saying your statment is not true ?im just saying mine is too
No it isn’t. It’s BS. There are not millions of S-Class taxicabs and even if there were that doesn’t change what the car is. It’s a nonsensical argument at best.

Actually the premium luxury sedan these days are driven, the age group has gotten younger.
This is one of the reason design packaging like the latest S-Class for example has abandoned the "old-elegance" theme in favor of a techie sport theme.
Rolls Royce also explained the average age group of its buyers is just 43 years old.

That is an astonishingly young age for Rolls Royce.

Most W223 I have seen here have been black and it really has massive presence on the road. It's a very sleek and elegant looking large saloon. The taillights are probably what makes the car stand out on the road because they are so different to other cars in shape and in graphics. You know it's a new S-class and definitely don't confuse it with any other car or brand.
