To be honest, Giannis, I don’t know yet. Bentley would fit the bill with it’s interior, but I am not willing to pay that much for a car. Besides, I prefer a diesel engine. What I’ve seen so far from the next BMW 7 doesn’t make me hopeful either.
You know what car crosses my mind every now and than? A Volvo S90. It looks gorgeous, it drives rather nicely, it’s a bargain compared to the usual German suspects. On the downside: I4 cylinder only, a central based touchscreen (though there are possibilities to operate it alternately) and a few other things.

Didn't see that coming. I think the ride quality of the S90 is not good at all, but that's perhaps colored by the fact that I've only driven models with large wheels.

JESMB just posted an update. :)

It is only offered there as a long version. The following engines are currently available there:

All variants receive the new, ultra-modern M256 inline 6-cylinder with 3.0 liter displacement. While in Germany the S 500 and S 450 are coupled with 4Matic, in China the S 450 with 367 PS and 500 NM is also available as a rear-wheel drive variant. In addition, a weaker entry-level variant of the M256 has been applied for China, which is not yet available in any series in Germany. The S 400 also delivers 313 PS and 450 NM with the M256 R6 petrol engine. The top speed is also 250 km/h. The acceleration to 100 km is given as 5.9 s.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class got off to a very successful start on the market. There are already over 40,000 orders. The order release for the S 580 V8 petrol engine in Germany should take place in May 2021. The plug-in hybrid S 580e, which is now also available as a 4Matic in the S-Class, will receive order approval in June 2021. The AMG plug-in hybrid version with the P3 layout will follow at the end of 2021 as the S 63e 4Matic+. Here the 612 PS 4.0 liter AMG V8 BiTurbo is combined with a 150 kW electric motor on the rear axle drive.

40.000 orders ?? The Chinese really are tasteless...

Chinese orders may not have been be included in that number since it was first published in early January. Remember the post below? :)

You know what, what is even more impressive is that I doubt these 40k units include the Chinese market, cos the car has yet to been shown to potential buys in China.

Yes!!!!!!! but they have a lot of money;)

So much money that even the Germans copy it

It’s surprising that you as a person who seems to be interested in cars and joined this forum 5+ years ago is not aware that this kind of dual tone paint comes originally from Maybachs....

Sometimes its really surprising how proud people are while showing their ignorance purely for fanboy hate... lol, it always brings a smile on my face, trying so hard to spread the hate and it’s usually such a fail... lol

Hard to say anything possitive about that S-Class Maybach. The color combination, ths grille, the rims... All look Chinese to me. No matter if these colors came before in the MB.

Well, you can dislike the design, right away hate it if it helps you, but mixing up facts just to fit ones crooked opinion is just pathetic...

So is it the mule done this way to cover the grill or no panamericana shaped grill for the S? Wouldn’t mind it at all honestly, with the standard shape but AMG inner design at least it would be different from the GT 4door

You have to see things on the other side, it's not Chinese who made cars with verticle grilles, lots of chrome, dual tone paints, etc., thay have copied it from west. Only difference is luxury car makers (not only Mercedes) are now developing cars targeting Chinese customers in mind which I won't complain too much as it's were the business comes for them. There was time when these car makers were targeting US as the market, now it's the other way.

However all these top luxury brands are not judged just by it's looks, but lot more which I think most of you guys would know it.

This car will probably sell 100k in its first 2 years just like W222. Its a benchmark luxury car and huge status symbol for rich executives world wide.

I went today at another dealer to see another one . Seems like the gaps are here , also...

I saw people here that say that the design grows on them. I feel the other way.

I know that there are cutting costs on manufacturing , but the price is crazy high.

Today I saw a S400 that was 145.000 euros. That is crazy , for a diesel , IMO.

Probably S63e will be >250.000 .

All that money , and you get plastic buttons and shifters ( see picture above )

For the first time , I feel like I should wait for the 7er to see another "option" , even though the 7er looks odd as for now ( leaks )

I'm keeping the W222 for this year...

Do you really expect expensive buttons behind the steering wheel?
This car has 3D screens, OLED displays, beamer light, 77" Head Up Display, active ambient light, rear axle system, augumented reality, best linguatronic and, and, and, highest comfort ans safety standards, radar, laser and camera systems for automatic driving and so on.
No W222 has one of this options. Without some "cost cutting" only a few people could buy this car. But it is only a little bit more expensive than the W222. And you can find this not visible plastic buttons in every car.

I don’t really see a problem with the trunk. Is it the metal trim piece not perfectly aligned? I guess it is just me, I worked in vehicle manufacturing and not everything is perfect. Yes the car uses a lot of plastic materials, but I think its competition does as well. It is not until you get to the next tier where the cheap plastic look and feel items are limited.

Have you tested ANY of this options?

Pure gimmicks. All of them !

Those 3D screens are nice , but not that "must have" ( some friends told me that after 2 hours they become disturbing ; I've tested them for few time , so can't conclude )

OLED displays yes , but not a "must have" ( I can't wait to see how the burn-in will be in +4 years in a car that sits in a +40degrees temperature )

Beamer light? I have beamed lights on my FL W222. Those projections are "ok" , but not a deal breaker.

That augmented reality is the biggest gimmick of all. It is pure garbage right now, in this state. At least for what I've seen. Maybe they will update it and make good use of it , because the tech is good !

Linguatronic...Meh. Do I really need to tell my car to turn on the heated seats?

Active ambient light is nice. Real axle is nice.

Those safety standards can come as software updates to any other car . There is no new tech under the bonnet. Same radars as 10 years ago ( you can check the parts )

And read all I've written : The biggest problem is not cost cutting. It's the price increase ! And not by a few thousands , but by tens !

AND YES , I expect better quality behind the steering wheel.

You know why? Because it's the first damn thing you see in the car , besides the steering wheel !
