S-Class (W223) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223)

The Mercedes-Benz W223 is the seventh generation of the S‑Class full-size luxury sedan. Body Styles: W223 (standard), V223 (long), Z223 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach). Predecessor: S‑Class (W222). Successor: S-Class (W224) [expected]. Production: 2020- Model years: 2021-

I think that is a key ingredient to the S's repeat customer rate. There is just an incredible depth of engineering to almost every element of the vehicle which translates to a driving experience and ownership experience that others struggle to replicate.
Form one car generation to another, the number of customers is not the same. The W222 is the most successful luxury car in recent history. They made generally likable cars up until now. No past S class was so controversial as this one. People can simply keep the older cars for longer if they don't like the new ones, they'll drive pretty well with proper maintenance.

I like the ugliest bmws? Didn't I just say they looked OK at best?

Regarding the E, are you serious? C, pre-facelift E and W222 were all designed with vertical tailights. When the E was facelifted they replaced the vertical lights with horizontal ones but didn't change the body itself hence leaving a lot of awkward-looking empty space.

The idea that good design is 100% subjective is beyond absurd.

What part of all of that is your opinion don’t you understand? It being ok at best and your take on the E’s lights is all your opinion. Period.

The W140 was easily as controversial and more. Widely panned in some markets.

The W140s' (relative for the era) massive bulk made it a highly controversial automobile here in its' German home market. It was considered by many to be a symbol of insatiable excess, arrogance and greed. It was one of the few S-Class generations that were seriously challenged by their domestic competitors in terms of unit sales. BMW E32s' and later E38s' as well as Audis' series I A/S8s' became market-segment automobiles of choice for many affluent customers.

Coming here after the m3 thread feels like traveling from saint denis into the louvre.

The Basilica Cathedral Saint Denis? What would be the difference? I get the joke, but don't.

Yesterday evening I was driving home from office and enjoyed the impeccable comfort of my car. The thought that crossed my mind was:”Though you really dislike some design cues, interior aspects and the HMI in general, you probably end up buying yet again another S; it’s the way it drives, stupid!”.
They must do something right in Sindelfingen...

Your car is new enough to wait for the FL or see what the ext 7er will be like. No need to rush.

Saint denis = rough area of Paris alot of graffiti and shit.

Yeah, thought it was something similar.

I would have gone with Lourdes, personally. Fits the theme better. G80 front looks physically and mentally challenged after all. It could use some holy water.

Not at all. It was a very successful model!

Sales tell a different story. The kind of people who criticize such cars as being "a symbol of insatiable excess, arrogance and greed" won't buy any such expensive car regardless who make them and what kind of qualities they have - their concerns are largely political. On the other hand, those who want such an expensive car, will often want an imposing vehicle - and the W140 delivered.

Audi didn't even have a model in this segment until 1994. The 7 series was not really on a par with S-Class until the E38(while the E32 was interesting, reliability was bad). However, neither the A8 nor the 7 series surpassed the S Class in sales.

"However, neither the A8 nor the 7 series surpassed the S Class in sales."

"Seriously challenged" does not mean surpassed. And, I am referring to the German home market. Not global sales.

".

But the series I Audi A/S8 was able to establish an impressive market presence in Germany during the period leading up to the presentation of the W220 S-Class.

As for your statement regarding "concerns that are largely political": Spot on agree with that one.

Best render so far, but I think the front bumper will be different. This was the default go to option on the GLS Maybach, which I think was a bad decision, but they could easily use a bumper design from the Vision Maybach

I think the driving and cabin experience of any S-class is always been something to behold and has always put all the models head and shoulders above other cars. Even the older W116 models were fantastic cars to drive in on long distances.
Especially the W116 in it’s days. Most advertising in those days was aimed at high mileage drivers. I’ll post some examples later on, if you like.

And on top of that, it was more expensive than the W126, much more expensive...

Wrong. It was the least successful sales wise but that wasn’t the point. You spoke to controversy, and how the W223 was by far the most controversial and that isn’t true as the W140 was also very controversial upon its introduction also.

With buying the new S you will feel f*ucked at the first day or week, but happy all the rest of time, with buying a 7er/A8 you will feel happy a day or a week and f*cked all the rest of time, because you know, that the S class is the car for you.
