@Sniper
I don’t know if it will only be an interior comparison or a real test comparison. But looking at ams’s Website I’m afraid it won’t be a real test comparison, not even a real testdrive of W223.

I guess we have to wait till December before we get official tests of the new S-class, but its interesting to compare the interior to the A8 and 7-series. Its a pity the A8 test vehicle had an all black interior, would have been nice to see a light brown interior to compare better with the S-class and 7.

^^ My Gosh that A8 interior is ugly AF. 7er interior is timeless, S class interior high tech.

So you prefer this exposed display panel to one that's recessed and cowled in the more traditional fashion? I certainly don't - I want my instruments set back in a traditional binnacle.

Sorry for the late reply my friend; In general yes, I do prefer a new age display system in a new style of 'wrapping'. The old analogue dials look fantastic in their traditional implementation, but these new digital displays deserve some new design directions. I think it looks fresh, lightweight, airy and overall much more modern in the free standing fashion.

For example, the interior of the FL 5er looks almost silly with the traditional dial setup and that gigantic screen next to it which actually physically is higher than the dash around the dials. An updated upper dash and new design for the instrument cluster would have gone a long way.

The rims on the S class are from the w222

The glove box design award clearly goes to the 7-Series.
It has the best looking pull handle. The box cut-out is slightly rounded at the corners and recessed in the lower dashboard which adds a good finished quality appearance.

If I had to give a rating to the interiors, in terms of looks, functionality and quality impression, the A8 interior comes last. It has nice seats but the design of the dash. although good from a tech point of view, just doesn't cut out it for a luxury car. Like Jimmy said its too clinical and unemotional to look at and from an ergonomic point of the view the double touch screens are a mess been mounted too low and both have a boring black background with ZERO colour. The huge amount of black piano trim is a big negative and doesn't add to the luxury ambiance like wood or metal alumuniam trim does in the 7-series and S-class.

The 7-series comes a close second, its interior has alot of charm and despite looking slightly dated with regards to its controls and excess number of buttons, it strikes a great balance with providing comfortable and luxurious ambiance, with rich use of wood, metal trim and nice leathers.

The new S-class tops the class as it provides the next generation of infotainment and technology as well as strikes a perfect balance between design elegance, simplicity, luxury ambiance and high tech gadgets for the computer geeks. Its interior design is maybe not perfect, some trim is questionable as well as the placement of the standalone instrument panel but it has to be experienced in person first before making a final judgement.

^With these very familiar AMG wheels and black colour, it looks hardly "new". I'd pass these AMG wheels if I'd choose AMG line...
