It is a goddamn disaster of a car and design.

HARD PASS. Total and complete failure.

I've always found the last-gen XJ as being quite generic and, in a way, quite a "betrayal" to the former "authenticity", "individuality" of the Jaguar 4 doors. The car could have been an Opel. The "floating roof" was heisted from Ford Europes' series I Scorpio.

Sure in way of comfort and noise insulation the XJ is not at the level of an 222.
But in way of dynamic driving its far above the 221 and 222 and 7er and A8.
The interior is gorgeous, with this wrap-around design, chrome, best wood and leather (nappa leather even on the celing) beautiful bowers/willkins soundsystem and also the drivers position is much better. You feel like you are sitting almost in a sports car and not in a limo - totally diferent from the competitors.
The design is a matter of personal taste, for my opinion its quite perfect. The car is long and low (even lower then the 7er) so an Sonder looks almost like an Van next to him. Front lights like an eye of the jaguar, the rear also (LED stripes like from claws of the animal, just spectacular). The roar of the V8 with 510 (later 575 PS) 100x better then of the competitors. Cornering like no other (except the Panamera). Also the color combinations much more special and different. Callum had some balls to change the oldskwl design and if we see the selling numbers, he did the right job, almost nobody bought the oldskwl looking model anymore, so he did a limo which looks almost like a coupe. Its sad they wont bring a new one….

Two years ago I had a 10min ride in rear of an XJ.

Noise insulation was very good and the ride quality as expected - plush. Would I pay list pride for one? Absolutely not. Used one? No, I prefer the design of the predecessors.

Didn't expect a discussion about the XJ here, but ok.

Design: I quite liked the X351 from most angles. Except for the weird design flourish on the C-Pillar, I thought it was a handsome car with very little needless fuss. The interior also looked nice and had a character unique to itself. Present claims of it being generic I find a bit amusing because often those claims are then followed by wistful nostalgia how Jags of yore were styled. I must admit I too was a bit wistful, but it should reminded that one of the biggest criticism facing Jaguar's designs was that it was becoming so old-hat that it was retro-kitsch. Its predecessor, the X350, was a fairly advanced car with aluminum space frame but a casual buyer wouldn't have known it as the car looked like a mild evolution of its predecessor.

Ride: never been driven or drove one, so I'll defer to others on that.

Well since it's Sunday, here we go
That blue Jaguar looks good there, but that photo is heavily photoshopped.
The headlights are disgusting, in terms of congruence with the rest of the front, they are the worst I've ever seen in any car, they don't even fit a Caterpillar

Contrary to what I read here about sales, there is no basis to say that they were good, a fact reflected in the decision not to produce a successor, this being a model with the highest percentage of profits, let's see:
Jaguar is and always was (since the 60s I think) represented by the MKs that gave way to the XJ, without an XJ (EV, ICE or whatever) there is no Jaguar.

Which leads me to reverse the other statement that I read and that I already mentioned before, Ian Callum, and Jaguar made a great effort to change the design language, because they had no idea how to evolve more times the previous style that we all love and made Jaguar the brand it was, I congratulate the effort but it was a failure, failure to capture the imagination and feelings, failure in sales, failure to distinguish itself in something.

If what they did successfully with the pass from the E-type to the XJS and then to the first XK (of Ian) being all very different but charming each one of them but with their sedans, today they would be what they should be, but it seems that in some moment Ian ran out of ideas

All the Ian Callum Jaguar designs looked like European Fords to me.

And the interiors under his helm have been pretty atrocious with switchgear like dated Hi Fi equipment.

Hard to believe, considering his breathtaking work at Aston Martin.

It's funny, but I spent a day at a Jaguar event some years ago and nearly got a XJ Supercharged. The car drove beautifully, but I just didn't trust a Jaguar.

M

I congratulate the effort but it was a failure, failure

Emmm…. bi*h please? ?

i think that the F-Type is one of the coolest cars ever built.

Also the F-Pace… no SUV looks as hot as this car…specially as an SVR and in this crazy looking mate british racing green

Also the I-Pace which didnt got only one Award, but to be exactly: 62 of them!
Compared to this car, an e-tron, eqc, tesla looking boring af.
Also the E-Pace, the hottest looking small SUV for me, also the XF a great car (specially as a kombi).

i think that Ian Callum is not only a great designer, but he has awaken Jaguar, which had (before him) almost die with its Ford Mondeo, pardon X-type and too classical looking XJ.

Yes, the selling numbers are still not on a level of audi, bmw, daimler, but quite better, then they were before
And yes, i would buy one immediately, if there wont be quality questions. But on the other hand: also Mercedes is far far away what it once was. My friend who works at the Mercedes importer in Slovenia, said to me thats its a disaster.
- they had 4 w223 comming from the factory without drawer under the cockpit
- the G-Class 2012-2019 has rust again
- the electronic in the A/CLA has failures again and again
- every week they have 4-5 w204/w212 with broken bridge (i dont know it you say it this way in english) under the chassis
- the grill on 5 year old w222 peels
and so on snd so on, so a lot of crap going on…

I am also a fan of the X350 XJs':

And were actually rather good cars.

yes, you both like it. I also do like it.
But why we didnt buy them then? ?
I hope you understand what i’m trying to say. Its nice to see one on the street, but to own him? No.
but only from looking at it, Jaguar cant survive, thats why they rejuvenate the whole portfolio + they start to playing in the SUV-league

It's Iain Calum's E65 7-Series: A deliberate and radical departure to mark a new era. The design has a few quirks and features that were charming on a good day. But on a bad day, the rhino snout and Critroen-esque rear quarters did not convey the elegance expected of a flagship luxury car.

i think that Ian Callum is not only a great designer, but he has awaken Jaguar, which had (before him) almost die with its Ford Mondeo, pardon X-type and too classical looking XJ.
I think that his strengths are coupes and SUVs. The F and E-Pace have gorgeous designs that will age well, and they look unmistakably Jaguar.

Sedans have been his weakest body shape. The X351 featured new ideas, most of which were binned for the lesser Jaguar models that in many cases had the anonymity of a Ford Mondeo.

Rolls Royce and Bentley have more successfully transitioned from "old world" designs to a identities.
