Who are the competitors for the S65? It is a product of pure indulgence, I don't think the potential customers will be bothered by the fact that the V12 has been around for over 13 years.

Try the Bentley Flying Spur...
Indulgence, yes I agree... It would not hurt the S65 to benefit from DOHCs and direct-injection like the M157. On top of that, you have 737lb-ft going to the rear wheels only. 4-Matic (at least as an option) would help put all that power to the ground more effectively.

Well I thought the S600 will be a more appropriate competitor for the Flying Spur, but yes I too will like to see MB upgrading the old engine to bring it up to date.

I believe Mercedes did update this engine with a few performance enhancements (such as larger turbos exc.)
It still has a large carbon foot-print (no way near as clean burning or efficient as the M157.)

I believe it`s time now these multi-cylinder cars get "taxed" and move closer to the 2015 café standards.
This might require the S65 to get a totally new engine. The downside of this is the cost factor vs. the sales ratio.
Thay don`t sell that many of them so why invest in a totally new engine. The upside would be the total appeal and updated engine technology to match the new tech this car possesses. Just imagine the S600 (new 5.5liter V12) and S65 AMG (or S69 AMG) with a new 6.0liter V12 with DOHCs, Bi-Turbo and DI. with a possible 4-Matic S version.

Serpens, care to give a reason why you disagree with my first statement?

^ These "multi-cylinder" cars? I was not aware of any one-cylinder cars currently on sale :)

Does anyone know when the S600 is likely to be revealed? I'm assuming the S600 will be the next to be revealed followed by the XWB and Pullman Models.

Mercedes sold more hybrids than all of its luxury German rivals put together last year. It sold 20,000 hybrid versions of the previous-gen S-class, 60 per cent of which were in China.

Hmmm, ok now I can see why they bother with a hybrid now. This is the one that will come to the U.S. the S500 plugin.
