S-Class (W222/C217/A217) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222 Facelift) 2017-2020

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
Yep. The W222 development team should really be patting themselves on the back. They did a tremendous job- this level of success doesn't come very often for anyone.
While I sort of agree with you there; the S class is the king of the throne. The team would really have to screw up monumentally to destroy its heritage and subsequent sales. The S class is like a Rolex. Everyone aspires to have one and those that can afford it can’t get enough.

Crazy this deep into the lifecycle and in this world of SUVs.
It is, both of my neighbors upgraded from their W212 to the W222, and another one just bought 2 for himself and his wife!

I wonder how many S Coupe and Cabriolet models were sold.

In their 10Best write up on the E_Class, they reveal that 25% of the E_Class sales in the U.S. are the Coupe and Cabrio and 4% are of the wagon. This was for the period of Jan-Oct 2018.

S-Class: Mercedes-Benz flagship shines with double-digit sales growth worldwide

The S-Class Saloon continued to enjoy great popularity in 2018: Approximately one-and-a-half years after the model upgrade, 77,927 units of the S-Class Saloon were sold in 2018 (+12.2%). The S-Class Saloon also achieved sales growth of 7% in Europe. The Mercedes-M...

That shows how little impact the newer Audi A8 had. Only the 7-Series is a credible rival.

The w220 can be considered as one of the product that destroyed the image of the s class imo.

Yet the S rules the segment today so I'd say all of that is matterless now.

The Lexus LS is still quietly racking up sales in the US as well.

Destroyed is a bit dramatic I think. The W220 modernized the S-class's stodgy image and was very well reviewed when new. Shame about the quality/reliability disaster that it was, but you have to admit the introduction of the S55 AMG and twin-turbo S600 changed the game. These cars brought unprecedented speed to the market and set the stage for big AMGs to thrive today.

Yeah, but the only reason the LS is selling again is because it's brand new and it still doesn't outsell the S-Class. Long ago it outsold the S-Class easily, but those days are long gone.

Yep, wasn't saying otherwise. Was just merely pointing out that there is another car that can sell as much as the 7-series. I'm honestly curious to see how well the LS does in subsequent years, as I've found this new generation to be underwhelming outside of interior quality.

Really, I really like the LS500 in F Sport trim. It's different that's for sure lol.

^All business and no bling-bling.
I believe it is safe to say the S-Class is the most successful large luxury car in the world.

I think mercedes also has the most successful compact/mid size car in the world?

I love all the curved edges and sound bits in the interior. It makes the cabin look as comfortable and soothing as a bedroom.
