GLK-Class (X204) [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLK

The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (X204) is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced from 2008 to 2015. It is succeeded by the Mercedes-Benz GLC (X253/C253). Production: 2008-2015. Model years: 2010-2015.
I have no probs with the GLK materials. They are better than what is in the ML. The only gripe I have is from the air vents down. There isn't any flow. The upper dash is very smooth and coherent. Then when you get to the center stack it just falls apart.

Are you all seeing a lot of sales with the GLK?

GLK is doing fine. Not great. Very competitive segment, and the GLK is a little option heavy IMO. Base price is very misleading. For this kind of car, Ipod, sat radio should be standard. Nav shouldn't cost you $3k today. Especially when Garmin can do it for $200. The dinky screen on the non-nav models just sucks. They should make the big screen standard and offer dealer installed Nav at a fair price. There is just no reason other than profit gouging to not make Nav more affordable.
I'd love to see a turbo diesel 4 cyl in this model as well.

The GLK drives rock solid, and people like the edgy look. It is unique in its segment in that regard. Most have the crossover, swoopy look.

Report: Mercedes-Benz GLK diesel on the way

If you're wishing and hoping for more diesel in the U.S., it looks like your best bet may again be placed on the Germans. Wards Automotive quotes Mercedes-Benz USA President Ernst Lieb as saying that the 2.2-liter Bluetec diesel will rest under the hood of the 2012 GLK. The oil-burning mill will likely cost a few thousand dollars more than the petrol-powered GLK, but fuel economy from the diesel four-pot will of course be vastly superior.

Mercedes reportedly won't stop with the GLK either, as the next generation C-Class will reportedly house the same Bluetec fuel-sipper. Further, the E-Class will once again receive diesel power in 2011 after a year off, rejoining the ML, GL and R-Class on the Bluetec buffet. Lieb says that diesels typically account for 12-20 percent of overall sales in the U.S. and the company is hoping to manage 15-20 percent of overall sales in the years ahead.

How in the world can you charge more for a 4 cyl than a 3.5 V6? That doesn't jive.

Anyway, I'll believe it when I see it. They had already said we'd have a GLK diesel this coming year, and this is nothing more than pushing it back another year. Same with the C-class. They are now saying 2013 MY. Why does it take so long to get existing product to the showroom?

Right now the diesel V6 is only $1,000 more in the E, ML and R. And the diesel V6 in the GL is $2k cheaper than the V8.

Hmm...I could understand your reasoning if Mercedes-Benz was just another run-of-the-mill car maker like Honda, Kia or Toyota. They're not.

Reducing price to make it more 'affordable' isn't what Merceddes-Benz is thinking--these cars sell well at their current price points. Mercedes has a very reasonably priced car in this segment. Don't believe me? Then go build a comparably equipped Q5 and you'll see what I'm talking about.

What's the article saying wolf?

FOCUS has the story now. Here's a translation. ;)

SUV buyers need patience

The boom in the passenger car market hit the automakers cold. Because they planned cautiously, factories can not keep up with the production. Customers must therefore in extreme cases wait almost a year for their new cars.

The delivery times for new cars have reached a record high. For particularly popular models, customers must wait up to ten months for delivery. According to a report in Automobilwoche those are especially SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes GLK and BMW X3.

Reason for the delivery delay are slow-moving parts supply from the disaster-torn Japan. Some of the production bottlenecks are, however, home-made, since many manufacturers have gone with too pessimistic sales expectations into the year and now can not expand their capacity quickly enough.

The GLK offers Mercedes the biggest potential in the U.S. with the new diesel. I wouldn't mind seeing an AMG model too.
