GLE [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLE (W167)

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.
Saw the new Range rover sport today, too conservative, minimalistic and boring, this GLE is a designed with substance and character, busy yet beautiful

I saw an Aston Martin DBX over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend, twice. I thought it was the absolute dog bollocks in numerous ways.

Yet when I excitedly showed a friend he said it looked like a beaten up frog!

And I'm like, what?

I like the Range Rover, but not half as much as the 🐸 LOL!

This is real? or one of those CGI animations, I'm not sure about the necessary force per cm2, if it's real it's fantastic but I don't know...
Very clever production cost cutting saving measure.

It must be real. For example all 7 series BMWs are autonomously moving out from the assembly hall in Dingolfing, using sensors mounted on the walls.

Will the new E53 have this power train?
Mmm very interesting. This is the first AMG Plug In Hybrid with a decent electric range. Its the same engine as the normal GLE53 but will 100kw electric motor and 31kWh battery. Could possibly be a good powertrain for the E53 and would make a good rival for the BMW 550e.

The GLE580 with V8 powertrain is a fraction cheaper, has 20kw less power but a tick faster to 100km/h at 4.6sec.

Would be disappointed if it did.
It would mean AMG haven't made a hand-built performance variant of the M256, which is what I'm hoping for
That was never gonna happen anyway. There was a leak few months, which confirmed the M256 I6 engine(256.830) for the E53 E Performance.

Imagine, if AMG really did that, then the shareholders would process Ola into Köttbullar or Surströmming and bring a worse cost cutter as the next MB CEO. I mean a company that wants to go full electric in the next years won´t develop a new just for 5-6 years.

GLE 53 Hybrid is aimed at the company car market.
Recording private usage according to the lump sum method

The private use of a vehicle that is mostly used for business purposes is recognised, for each calendar month, at a lump sum of 1% of the domestic (German) list price at the time of the initial registration plus the costs for special equipment and including VAT. Alternatively, it is also permissible to determine the proportion of private usage on an individual basis by means of a driver’s log book. Smaller lump sums have been applicable since 2019 already for specific electric vehicles and off-vehicle charging hybrid electric vehicles. For hybrid vehicles, 0.5% of the list price is recognised and for purely electrically powered vehicles this is just 0.25%. A corresponding distinction is also made when determining costs in accordance with the driver’s log book method. However, not every electrically powered vehicle will meet the criteria to be able to benefit from the tax concessions; in the following section we first make a distinction according to the type of vehicle.

When Mercedes facelifted the GLE at the beginning of the year, the AMG Lite version received a larger turbocharger boosting torque to 413 lb-ft while horsepower remained the same at 429 hp. Fast forward some nine months later, the AMG 53 adopts a substantially different persona since it's now a plug-in hybrid in Europe, with the U.S. to follow in 2025. Don't fret as the combustion engine has not been downsized to a four-cylinder, which sadly happened to the C63.

The same turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six works with a 134-hp electric motor to enable a combined output of 536 hp and 553 pound-feet (750 Nm) of torque. The hybrid assistance has lifted power by a substantial 107 hp and 140 lb-ft (190 Nm) compared to the 2024 GLE 53 available in the United States. Mercedes is turning both body styles into PHEVs, so the "coupe" version also gets a charging port to feed a 31.2-kWh battery pack.

The massive power hike enables a 0 to 60 mph run in 4.6 seconds (down by 0.3s compared to the ICE model) en route to an electronically governed 155 mph (250 km/h). Mercedes points out you'll be able to hit 87 mph (140 km/h) without sipping any gasoline. However, doing so will make it impossible to achieve the WLTP-certified electric range of up to 53 miles (86 kilometers) in the case of regular GLE 53 and 54 miles (87 kilometers) for the swoopy version. The EPA range has yet to be announced.

The GLE 53 Hybrid rides on 21-inch wheels with AMG brakes consisting of 400-mm front discs with six-piston calipers and 370-mm rear discs with single-piston calipers. Aside from the "Hybrid" badges, there are some subtle aero tweaks separating it from the conventionally powered variant. In addition, changes have been made to the MBUX infotainment system to reflect the newly gained hybrid setup.

Logic tells us the introduction of a GLE 53 Hybrid also means the new E53 is likely to benefit from the same PHEV setup. Perhaps the CLE 53 is also going to inherit this setup. Sadly, the CLS 53 is dead, along with the non-AMG versions as Mercedes is discontinuing the sleek sedan altogether.

Mercedes will have the 2026 GLE 53 Hybrid on sale in the United States later in 2025, which is quite far away considering we're still in 2023.

That would just mean the Merc shareholders have read the room wrong.
Having an E580 to compete against the M550i would be fantastic for the brand image, for a start.

Also AMG are purveyors of sports cars. Having a new hand-built AMG engine would again add to the brand cache and they'd have an engine for each segment of the market, and something to compete against the S68 BMWs and that beautiful Ferrari V6 in the Alfa's. Would also allow them to hit broader price ranges for their AMG specific sports cars like the GT, even if regular Mercedes-Benz lineup goes full electric.

Make full use of the MSA architecture with h sports cars or different flavours, and get some good ROI on it.

The V8 non AMG E-Class has never sold well. An E580 would be dead in the water. E500 and E550 models before it never sold well.
